Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for enabling orientation of directional antennas even when one or more of the directional antennas are moving. Position information for each directional antenna is transmitted using an omnidirectional antenna transmitting at a low bandwidth and a low power. The position information of the directional antennas is used to orient the directional antennas so that a high bandwidth, low power wireless connection can be enabled and/or maintained between the directional antennas. The position information is periodically transmitted and the orientation of the directional antennas is updated as one or more of the directional antennas move so that the wireless connection between the directional antennas is maintained.

A speech recognition system that automatically sets the volume of output audio based on a sound intensity of a command spoken by a user to adjust the output volume. The system can compensate for variation in the intensity of the captured speech command based on the distance between the speaker and the audio capture device, the pitch of the spoken command and the acoustic profile of the system, and the relative intensity of ambient noise.

Orientation of directional antennas

A distance between a light source and a surface may be determined by emitting pulses of light from the light source and measuring an intensity of the light after the light reaches the surface. To determine a true distance, aliased distances, which are outside of a known distance segment, are disregarded. The distance segment may be defined by a modulation period of light emitted by the light source. The distance segment may be determined based on a ratio of a measured intensity of light captured during a first time interval and a second time interval, and a comparison of other types of evidence data that identifies a correct distance segment. The evidence data may include data associated with the amplitude (intensity) of the light captured, temporal variations in data, and/or analysis data collected from other surfaces that are adjacent to the surface.

Surface distance determination using reflected light

In a system that monitors the positions and movements of objects within an environment, a depth camera may be configured to produce depth images based on configurable measurement parameters such as illumination intensity and sensing duration. A supervisory component may be configured to roughly identify objects within an environment and to specify observation goals with respect to the objects. The measurement parameters of the depth camera may then be configured in accordance with the goals, and subsequent analyses of the environment may be based on depth images obtained using the measurement parameters.

Determining time-of-fight measurement parameters

Described herein are systems and devices for mitigating multi-path interference in optical time-of-flight systems. An input surface is configured with a pattern comprising predominately low albedo material and a plurality of decimated high albedo features. The low albedo material is configured to minimize reflectance of light emitted by an emitter. The high albedo material is configured to reflect more of the light than the low albedo material. The low and high albedo materials, or an additional material, may be used to provide a high albedo material in visible light wavelengths, configured for use as a projection surface.

Multi-path reduction for optical time-of-flight

In some embodiments, a distance between the at least one light sensor and the surface may be calculated using a ratio representative of the phase difference using time-of-flight of light. The distance may be within a distance range defined by a distance of light travel during a modulation period of the predetermined frequency. The distance may be based on the ratio defined by an amount of energy stored from captured light during a first time interval and a second time interval, and a comparison of an amount of light stored from captured light during at least a third time interval. The first, second, and third time intervals are different, but may overlap in some instances. In some embodiments, the amount of ambient light may be identified and subtracted from the inputs of the ratio. A switch may be used to prevent oversaturation of a storage element storing the stored energy.
