A wound closure device in the form of a force modulating deep skin staple. The deep skin staple includes a bridge portion extending along a longitudinal axis to support a first set of staple legs and an opposing second set of staple legs. Each staple leg coupled to the bridge portion via a spring arm. Each staple leg angled towards a middle section of the bridge portion. The staple legs designed to modulate forces with a wound down into the reticular dermis layer when applied to the wound.

Force modulating deep skin staples and instruments

Provided are methods and compositions for the prevention and/or treatment of viral conditions, virally-induced conditions and inflammatory conditions. The methods can comprise administering to a subject a viral inducing agent with an antiviral agent, and optionally an additional agent. The viral inducing agent can be a HDAC inhibitor administered orally.

Methods and compositions for treating viral or virally-induced conditions

The present invention relates generally to devices comprising one or more microstructures that are used to relieve, treat or prevent pain. The devices are designed such that they are inserted into the superficial layers of the skin to achieve pain relief. The devices are designed such that the microstructures are able to grasp and secure to the skin. The devices may consist of microstructures in arrays that are attached to a backing to enable the devices to adhere to the skin. Also provided are wound closure systems that comprise one or more microstructure devices along with other components, such as protective covers and therapeutics. A variety of packaging specifications are disclosed, as is a dispenser apparatus configured to enable simple one-handed application of the devices. Methods described herein provide for treatment of pain.

Microstructure systems and methods for pain treatment

Systems, apparatus, and methods related to wound closure devices comprising one or more microstructures are described herein. In some embodiments, the wound closure devices include a backing and a microstructure array. The microstructure array may include a first portion, a second portion, and a bridge portion. The first portion and the second portion each include one or more microstructures configured to penetrate tissue. Additionally, the first portion and the second portion each include one or more expandable portions such that the wound closure device is configured to expand in length. The wound closure device is configured to grip tissue surrounding a wound to either close the wound or secure the tissue in place.

Microstructure-based systems, apparatus, and methods for wound closure

In some aspects, the present disclosure provides compositions and methods for treating disease, e.g., inflammatory disease. Compositions herein comprise one or more polypeptide fragments of proopiomelanocortin or variants thereof. The one of more polypeptide fragments of proopiomelanocortin or variants thereof may be linked by a linker, e.g., a peptide linker, to form a fusion polypeptide.

Microstructure-based wound closure devices

Embodiments of the invention provide patches for the transdermal delivery of iron-containing compositions to an individual suffering from an iron deficiency. Many embodiments provide an iontophoretic patch for the transdermal delivery of a therapeutically effective amount of iron. The patch comprises an electrode and a reservoir containing a composition comprising ionic iron for the delivery of the therapeutically effective amount of iron. Various embodiments provide methods of using embodiments of the iontophoretic patch for delivering a therapeutically effective amount of iron to an individual suffering from one more forms of iron deficiency including iron deficiency anemia. Such methods can be used for treating and/or preventing the iron deficiency. The amount of delivered iron can be adjusted depending upon various treatment parameters such as patient weight and type and amount of iron deficiency.

Patches and methods for the transdermal delivery of a therapeutically effective amount of iron

A polymer including a self-immolative polymer segment and a thermally-activated trigger moiety is described. The self-immolative polymer segment includes a head end, a tail end, and a plurality of repeating units. The trigger moiety includes a cycloaddition adduct that is covalently coupled to the head end of the self-immolative polymer segment. When the polymer is exposed to an activation temperature, the cycloaddition adduct undergoes retro-cycloaddition to release the self-immolative polymer segment. The self-immolative polymer segment then decomposes to sequentially release repeating units in a head-to-tail direction.

Embodiments provide devices, systems and methods for the transdermal delivery of chelated compounds. One embodiment provides a method for the iontophoretic transdermal delivery of a chelated iron complex for the treatment of anemia. A first patch comprising an active electrode and a chelated iron complex is applied to the skin; a second patch containing an electrode is also applied. An electrical current is then delivered to the skin from the active electrode. The chelated complex is transported across the skin via electromotive force from the current, with the iron being substantially chromogenically unreactive with the skin during transport so that there is little or no tattooing of the skin due to the formation of insoluble oxidative products. The complex is then dissociated by phagocytosis or related process to release the iron where it may be bound by transferrin or ferritin and carried to other sites for storage or metabolic use.
