In some aspects, the techniques described herein relate to a method including: receiving a request from a client device to join a room, the room associate with a plurality of other client devices streaming multimedia content; adding the client device to the room in response to the request; computing a synchronization time for the client based on time values associated with the client device and the other client devices; and transmitting the synchronization time to the client device, causing the client device to adjust playback of the multimedia content based on the synchronization time.

The method also includes registering the display device with the server. The registering includes receiving attributes of the display device. Also included is receiving information, at the server, regarding content rendered on the display device, and sending to the display device application data for at least one of the applications of the display device. The application data is correlated to the content rendered on the display device.

Methods and systems for application rendering and management on internet television enabled displays

The systems and methods of the present invention provide for a number of improvements to the TV consumption process, including personalization, community viewing, shared presence and context, messaging, access to ratings and recommendations (including community reviews), alerts, etc. One method that the present invention provides allows for the indication of a given user's context to be provided to other users, such as users in the given user's social network. The method comprises generating an indication of a change in context for a given user, the context comprising information regarding an action of the given user. The indication of the change in context for the given user is propagated to one or more users in the social network for the given user. The indication of the change in context of the given user is presented to users in the given user's social network in conjunction with TV content.

A method for providing an interface for a television device is provided, including the following method operations: identifying available services for consumption on a television device, wherein the available services include two or more of a broadcast television service, an on-demand video service, and an internet content service; determining a current date and time; determining content items available for consumption from each of the available services at the current date and time; determining an allocation of display locations in a cross-platform interface for content items from each of the available services, the allocation defining a relative amount of display locations for each of the available services based on a device profile associated with the television device; assigning content items to the display locations in accordance with the determined allocation.

A method for displaying supplemental content with a content stream on a display is provided. A content stream for a program is received, and a portion of the received content stream is sampled. The sampled portion is analyzed to determine a media identifier for the content stream, the media identifier being transmitted to a content server. Supplemental content is retrieved from the content server using the media identifier. And the content stream is rendered on the display with the supplemental content. The supplemental content provides access to an interactive feature, the interactive feature providing internet communication during the receipt of the content stream.

Signal-driven interactive television

Methods and systems for controlling a networked display via a client device are provided. The client device and the networked display are connected by a network. A session is initiated between the client device and the networked display, and a remote user interface is transmitted from the networked display to the client device. Interactivity with the remote user interface is detected at the client device, and input data is transmitted from the client device to the networked display based on the interactivity with the remote user interface. The input data is interpreted at the networked display so as to cause a change in a state of an application being executed by the networked display. And the remote user interface is updated based on the changed state of the application executed by the networked display.

System and method for controlling a networked display

The present invention provides a general solution to presenting media interface and navigation tools for content provided from a plurality of sources. The invention maintains a user at a single site regardless of the source of the media content. This permits a consistent interface to be presented to the user. Because the user remains at the same site, differences in tiered membership may be tracked so that the user is only presented with content that the user is permitted to view. The invention uses a metadata language to characterize content so that viewer type, membership level, and other information can be maintained and used for an enjoyable viewing experience.
