A traffic-light-detection system that visually determines a light-state of a traffic-light proximate to an automated vehicle includes a camera, a controller, and optionally a radar. The camera and the radar are on a host-vehicle. The camera renders a series-of-images of a traffic-light proximate to a host-vehicle. The radar detects radar-returns from the traffic-light. The controller is configured to determine a motion-pattern of the traffic-light based on the series-of-images and/or the radar-returns, and select a preferred-image from the series-of-images based on the motion-pattern. The preferred-image shows a light-source of the traffic-light characterized as being most directed at the camera when the motion-pattern indicates that the traffic-light is moving. The controller is further configured to determine a light-state of the traffic-light based on the preferred-image.

A safe-stop-zone mapping system suitable for use on an automated-vehicle includes a digital-map and a controller. The digital-map indicates a travel-path suitable for travel by a host-vehicle. The digital-map also indicates a safe-stop-zone proximate to the travel-path. The controller is in communication with the digital-map. The controller is configured to navigate the host-vehicle into the safe-stop-zone when an emergency-situation occurs.

A method is provided for altering a play list of a Random Access Player without interrupting the generation of output by the Player. The method includes initiating a reproduction mode that activates the Random Access Player, commencing the generating of output by the Random Access Player and receiving play list requests while the Random Access Player is generating the output, and processing the received play list requests while the Random Access Player is generating the output such that the play list is altered without interrupting the generation of output by the player.

An electronic theft deterrent system for deterring theft of an electronic device, such as a radio associated with a vehicle, that takes advantage of already existing device parameters, controls and displays associated with the device. When used as a theft deterrent system for the vehicle radio, a radio operator will first activate a frequency control switch in order to set an arbitrary frequency in the display of the radio. Next, a predetermined set of theft key radio control buttons are activated for a predetermined time in order to cause the arbitrary frequency that is displayed to be stored in a non-volatile memory. When the frequency is stored, the radio volume is impaired, but the total operation of the radio is not disabled. When the operator wishes to restore the radio to its normal operating condition, the operator will reset the arbitrary frequency, and reactivate the theft key control buttons. If the currently displayed frequency setting matches the stored frequency setting in the memory, the radio will be removed from the theft guarded condition, and the audio portion of the radio will be restored. If successive attempts to restore the radio to its normal operating conditions fail, an attempts counter will cause the radio to remain in its impaired state until an authorized service agent is able to restore the operation of the radio.
