In the construction of a hot blast stove, walls are made of pre-formed and baked bricks. At the joint between two walls, cast joining elements of complex shape are incorporated. The cast joining elements may be cast in situ. This avoids the need for pressing joining bricks of a variety of shapes.

Hot blast stove and method for constructing a hot blast stove

A hot-blast main for a hot-blast stove system of a blast furnace has a refractory structure comprising a plurality of courses of refractory bricks. At least a first one of the courses has at least one part thereof comprised of a plurality of expansion-joint forming bricks whose dimensions and arrangement are such that, in the cold condition of the hot blast main, there are provided radial expansion joints between the expansion-joint forming bricks and at least one adjacent part of the hot-blast main. At least some of the expansion-joint forming bricks of the first course are placed radially staggered relative to at least one adjacent such brick in each case, so that the expansion joints are provided at both the radially inner side and the radially outer side of said first course. This construction accommodates differential thermal expansions and provides good stability of the structure.

A ceramic gas burner for a hot-blast stove has a burner crown essentially composed of a plurality of shaped bricks which define terminal portions of at least one combustion air duct and at least one gas duct of said burner for flow of respectively combustion air and gas. A simple and inexpensive structure is obtained when the bricks are of at most two principal types in respective layers. The bricks of each type are identical, but may be of a subsidiary type of which two bricks combine to form one brick of the principal type.

A channel structure, i.e. iron trough or iron runner, for flow of molten pig iron during tapping of a blast furnace, comprises a wear lining which provides the surface along which the iron flows, a permanent lining outside the wear lining and an outer lining of high thermal conductivity outside the permanent lining. The outer lining has a bottom wall and two opposed side walls thermally connected at their lower ends to the bottom wall. To improve resistance to thermal stress, outside and adjoining at least one, but not all, of the walls of the outer lining, there is at least one refractory insulating lining layer, and the other or others of the walls of the outer lining are thermally coupled to heat dissipating means.

Channel structure for flow of molten pig iron

A ceramic gas burner for a combustion chamber of a hot-blast stove of a blast furnace has parallel vertical supply ducts for the two combustion components (gas and air). One duct opens upwardly at a first outlet opening which is rectangular in shape. The second duct opens at second outlet openings which are on each side of and above the first outlet opening and whose outflow directions are oblique to that of the first outlet opening. Recesses extend in each long side of the first opening towards the second openings. To improve the mixing of the two components, opposite each recess there is another such recess in the other long side of the opening.

Ceramic gas burner for a combustion chamber of a hot-blast stove

A ceramic burner for a hot blast stove, having a burner head where the combustion components mix and an air duct and a gas duct beneath the head for conducting combustion components to the head, the gas duct is within the air duct and is bounded by a wall. To prevent stresses due to differences of thermal expansion at least one horizontal sliding joint is arranged in the bounding wall of the gas duct closely under the burner head. The air duct is bounded by a brickwork wall which continues upwardly past the burner head and forms a combustion chamber. The burner head projects over and is supported by a shoulder in this wall and an essentially vertical expansion joint is located between the burner head and the wall.

Ceramic burner for a hot-blast stove

A bottom construction for a shaft furnace, has a plurality of horizontal layers of refractory material, and a gastight metal membrane located above at least the lowest layer of refractory material. So that the membrane is easily constructed, can accommodate thermal movements and has a level upper surface, the layer of refractory material immediately underneath the metal membrane is formed of blocks and has a level top surface and the metal membrane is formed of loosely laid, mutually abutting metal plates which are stacked in at least three layers. The pattern of the joints of the plates of each of these three layers is offset, as seen in plan view, with respect to the pattern of the joints of both the other two layers. The plates may be copper sheets. The membrane may have a peripheral flange cemented in a slot at the furnace wall.
