In one example, a control panel system for a printer includes a portable control panel configured to receive user input to control printer functions and a stationary control panel configured to receive user input to control printer functions. In this example, the portable control panel has a wireless connector for making a wireless connection to the printer. In another example, a control panel system for a device (for example a printer) includes: a portable control panel; a stationary control touch panel; a dock configured to receive the portable control panel; and a feature configured to inhibit the portable control panel from triggering touch sensitive buttons on the stationary control panel during docking and undocking. In this example, the stationary control touch panel is hidden from view by the portable control panel and inaccessible to the user when the portable control panel is docked.

A beltless, automatic document feeder for a flat bed document scanner or other hard copy apparatus using a flat bed scanning station is disclosed. A paper path is formed between a feeder frame guide and a paper loading tray. A document sheet pulled from a stack loaded in the tray is transported along the path by a dual function driver. A pad overlaying the flat bed of the scanner is provided with a cooperative lip such that the leading edge of the pulled document sheet is directed from the paper path to the flat bed and under the pad. A second, bi-directional driver, associated with the pad and the flat bed, transports the document sheet to a fully scannable position between the pad and flat bed without releasing the trailing edge of the document sheet. After scanning, the second driver is reversed to remove the scanned document sheet from the bed and transport it to the dual function driver which then ejects the sheet along a second path. The first path and second path are on the same side of the flat bed.

Beltless cut sheet media feeder and method for feeding and ejecting

An ink-jet printer having improved print quality and full color printing capability on plain paper media. To accommodate placement of both input and output media trays on the same side of the printer housing for operator convenience, a paper path with a direction reversal is employed. A paper preconditioning preheater with a curved surface and a multi-purpose paper path component accomplish the direction reversal. The paper path component is a unitary component which employs curved ribs to reduce the contact area with the medium and reduce static charge buildup, and has slots formed therein to release water vapor given off by the medium when preheated. The component permits paper to be loaded manually via a second manual feed path, through a housing, and upon opening a rear access door in the housing, such component is easily removable to facilitate operator access to the paper path and electrical components.

An ink-jet printer having improved print quality and full color printing capability on plain paper media. To accommodate placement of both input and output media trays on the same side of the printer housing for operator convenience, a paper path with a direction reversal is employed. A paper preconditioning preheater with a curved surface and a multi-purpose paper path component accomplish the direction reversal. The printer further includes a manual feed path for guiding a manually fed sheet or envelope from a manual feed inlet slot at the top, rear corner of the printer to a path converging location with the primary feed path. The preheater includes a heating portion disposed along the primary path between the path converging location and the-print area, to provide the capability of preheating media fed either from the input tray or the manual feed slot.

A printer architecture structure in which a flexible external case is used to compress and sandwich internal printer structure comprised of a rigid metal base and printer chassis structure by nominally compressing resilient pads between the chassis structure and case top and side walls. Additional resilient pads between the base and chassis structure are ordinarily nominally uncompressed by the flexible case except during application of shock loads during shipment or vibrations during printer operation. The construction minimizes transmission of externally applied shock loads through the internal components of the system and assists in containing vibrations and noise generated during printer operation interiorly of the case. The relatively rigid base comprises a metal enclosure for RF shielding of the electronic components.
