The present invention relates to a chemical composition useful in the chemical management of plant disease. The pesticides of the present invention incorporate benzophenanthridine alkaloids into formulations that are (1) residual and active for a period of time, (2) are adhesive to plant surfaces, (3) have good spreading properties, (4) are stable against photodeactivation, (5) have low phytoxicity, and (6) are capable of penetrating plant tissues.

Pesticides comprising benzophenanthridine alkaloids

A pharmaceutical composition of a free amine benzophenanthridine alkaloid and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is disclosed. The composition is an antibacterial and antifungal agent.

Free amine benzophenanthridine alkaloid compositions

A polymeric controlled delivery system is provided for use in treating periodontal disease. The delivery system in a variety of forms is placed directly in the infected gingival tissue where the chemotherapeutic agent is slowly released into the tissue and into the infected periodontal pocket by means of the gingival crevicular fluid originating in the gingival tissue.

Intragingival delivery systems for treatment of periodontal disease

A method for separating and purifying individual benzophenanthridine alkaloids from alkaloid extracts by using the pH differences in formation of their respective alkanolamine or base forms and iminium ions. The insoluble base form of the alkaloid is collected as a precipitate and dissolved in an organic solvent and converted to the insoluble iminium ion form with a mineral or organic acid.

Purification of benzophenanthridine alkaloids extracts from alkaloid

Mouthrinses containing sanguinarine of superior efficacy and increased uptake into dental plaque are attained by the development of stable mouthrinses adjusted to a pH in the range of 4.0 to 5.6, preferably about 4.5. Oral rinse compositions

Drug delivery devices and techniques are described for use in treatment of periodontal disease and the like. The delivery device includes benzo (c) phenanthridine alkaloid in a bioerodable and biocompatible material. The alkaloid is slowly released from the bioerodable material in the oral cavity. The bioerodable material may be polymeric and may be natural or synthetic. The delivery device may be inserted subgingivally (e.g., in a periodontal pocket) where the alkaloid is released slowly over a period of days.

Drug delivery devices

A muscosal delivery system is provided for use in treating periodontal disease. The system is composed of a chemotherapeutic agent dissolved in a skin-penetration enhancer. The solution of chemotherapeutic agent and skin-penetration enhancer is placed into the periodontal pocket where the agent is transported into the surrounding gingival tissue by means of the penetration enhancer.
