A package and methods for treating a wellbore using the same. In one embodiment, the method comprises servicing a wellbore in contact with a subterranean formation by placing a material in the wellbore, wherein the material is disposed within a closed container. The material is suitable for use in a wellbore and is capable of plugging a flow pathway. The method further comprises releasing the material from the container. In an embodiment, the material is a swelling agent, which may plug a permeable zone.

Methods of using cement compositions comprising phosphate compounds in subterranean formations

The present invention provides a process for forming cement in a well bore. In this process, a cement composition is formed that comprises a cement and one or more beads mixed with the cement. The cement composition containing the beads is displaced into the well bore, and an inert gas phase is introduced to the cement composition to control a density of the cement composition. The inert gas phase can be introduced by adding a gas generating material to the cement composition and/or a porous material to the cement composition. In an embodiment, the gas generating material is a nitrogen generating material that may be activated by an oxidizing agent. In another embodiment, the gas generating material is a hydrogen generating material, e.g., an aluminum powder. The present invention further provides a cement composition comprising a cement, one or more beads combined with the cement, and an inert gas phase created by, e.g., a gas generating material and/or a porous material.

Processes for incorporating inert gas in a cement composition containing spherical beads

The present invention provides oil based compositions and methods of using the compositions for temporarily sealing subterranean zones. The compositions are basically comprised of oil, a hydratable polymer, an organophilic clay, a water-swellable clay, and an acid soluble material such as calcium carbonate. These compositions will form a viscous gel when contacted with water. The gelled mass may then be dissolved with an acidic fluid, such as 15% hydrochloric acid.

Oil based compositions and method for temporarily sealing subterranean zones

In a method and apparatus for transferring material in a wellbore in an earth formation, a pipe is inserted into the wellbore. A conduit is inserted alongside the pipe into the wellbore. The conduit is fixed to the pipe and has a first section with a perforated wall located adjacent a non-production interval of the formation, and has a second section with an unperforated wall located adjacent a production interval of the formation. The material is injected into the conduit and out the perforated wall of the first section of the conduit.

Method and apparatus for transferring material in a wellbore

The present invention provides improved methods for cementing. The methods are basically comprised of the steps of preparing a cement composition comprised of hydraulic cement, water, gas, surfactants, a cement early strength accelerator and a mildly set retarding cement dispersing agent, placing the cement composition in the annulus between the casing string and the well bore and allowing the cement composition to set into a hard impermeable mass. The cement composition used can alternatively comprise hydraulic cement, a water reducing additive, a dispersing additive, a set accelerating additive and water. Also, the cement composition can be made environmentally benign by using water reducing and dispersing additives, set retarding additives, and compressive strength and set accelerating additives which are environmentally degradable.

The present invention provides methods of treating subterranean zones penetrated by well bores in primary well cementing operations, well completion operations, production stimulation treatments and the like. The methods are basically comprised of introducing into the subterranean zone an aqueous well treating fluid comprised of water and a water soluble polymer complex fluid loss control additive.

The present invention provides methods and compositions for removing a water-based drilling fluid from surfaces in a well bore and leaving the surfaces water-wet. A method of the invention basically comprises the following steps. A water-based drilling fluid removal solution comprised of water and a mixture of a sulfonated kraft lignin salt and an N-methyl-N-oleyltaurine salt dissolved therein is provided. The drilling fluid is displaced from the well bore and the well bore surfaces are contacted with the removal solution to thereby remove the drilling fluid from the surfaces and make the surfaces water-wet.

The methods of encapsulating the chemicals are basically comprised of forming a first coating of a dry hydrophobic film forming material or a sparingly soluble material which provides a dry shield on the chemical and then forming a second coating of a porous cross-linked hydrophilic polymer on the first coating which prevents the substantial dissolution of the resulting encapsulated chemical for a selected period of time.
