A method for minimizing the loss of xylenes in an ethylbenzene conversion/isomerization process by adding toluene to the feedstock. The concentration of toluene in the feedstock is increased by co-feeding toluene or by recycling toluene separated from the ethylbenzene conversion reactor effluent. The increased toluene concentration reduces the loss of xylenes during the ethylbenzene conversion reaction and under preferred operating conditions increases the amount of xylenes in the product.

Xylene isomerization process using toluene co-feed

A method for increasing the efficiency of xylene isomerization by using a two stage isomerization process. In the first stage of the process, a C.sub.9.sup.+ aromatics feedstock is subjected to ethylbenzene conversion and xylene isomerization. Non-C.sub.8 aromatics are removed from the effluent, which is then processed in a second stage of the process to remove para-xylene and isomerize the para-xylene depleted effluent. The effluent from the second stage isomerization unit is then recycled into the inlet of the second stage of the process and a slip stream from the para-xylene separator is recycled to the feedstock and to the effluent of the ethylbenzene conversion unit. In this way, the production of para-xylene is maximized. In a preferred embodiment, toluene is co-fed into the feedstock to minimize the loss of xylenes during the ethylbenzene conversion reaction.

Dual-loop xylene isomerization process

A process for integration of a steam reforming unit and a cogeneration power plant in which said steam reforming unit comprises two communicating fluid beds; the first fluid bed comprising a reformer containing catalyst and which is used to react steam and light hydrocarbons at conditions sufficient to produce a mixture comprising synthesis gas hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, the second fluid bed comprising a combustor-regenerator which receives spent catalyst from the first fluid bed and which provides heat to heat the catalyst and balance the reaction endotherm, by combusting fuel gas in direct contact with the catalyst producing hot flue gas; said cogeneration power plant comprises a gas turbine equipped with an air compressor and a combustor; said integration which comprises drawing off a portion of compressed air from the power plant gas turbine air compressor leaving remainder compressed air; introducing the drawn off compressed air to the combustor-regenerator; mixing the hot flue gas from the combustor-regenerator with the remainder of the compressed air to produce a recombined gas stream and feeding this recombined gas stream to the combustor of the cogeneration gas turbine power plant.

Integration of steam reforming unit and cogeneration power plant

There is provided a process for the catalytic production of hydrogen from the reaction of hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide with the elimination of the carbonyl sulfide and/or sulfur dioxide by-products. The carbonyl sulfide and the sulfur dioxide are combusted or reacted in one or more reaction steps with each other, oxygen and/or hydrogen sulfide to produce carbon dioxide, water, sulfur or sulfuric acid or a combination of these.
