An on-board self test system for an electrical power monitoring device includes a test signal circuit in an electronic circuit of the monitoring device, and responsive to a programmable test input signal for producing an analog signal simulating an electrical power waveform, and a programmable memory in an electronic circuit of the monitoring device and operatively coupled with the test signal circuit for storing and reproducing upon command, one or more of the programmable test input signals.

An impulsive transient detection and data acquisition coprocessor for use with a power monitoring device having a processor for performing data sampling and reporting at a given rate. The coprocessor has a processor, an interface for accessing data from the processor, a plurality of channels for monitoring for transients, and at least two independent, switchable memory banks for simultaneous real-time storage and analyses of an incoming transient data stream.

A method for detecting, in real time, high energy transients in an electrical power system, the method including obtaining real time data defining a power waveform, converting the data to digital data, calculating from the digital data a plurality of test point values, calculating incremental area values corresponding to differences between each adjacent pair of the plurality of test point values, an incremental time interval between adjacent the test point values being defined as a unit width of the area, such that the cumulative area under the waveform at a given testpoint is equal to the sum of the area calculated at that test point and the area, calculated at the previous test point, calculating the area of the waveform between adjacent pairs of test points by substracting the cumulative area at the later in time of the test points from the cumulative area at the earlier in time of the test points, and comparing each the area calculated under the waveform with an area at corresponding points in time on an ITI curve.

High speed power system high voltage transient damage assessment

For use within an electrical distribution to control current paths through a plurality of associated circuit breakers, a circuit arrangement comprises a plurality of circuit breakers, each having a status related to open contact position and a closed contact position. An informational display is included within the load-center to display the plurality of statuses at a user access side of the display, and a control circuit, coupled to the circuit breakers and the informational display, automatically monitors the contact status of the circuit breakers and drives the informational display so that a display of the statuses is provided.

For use within an electrical distribution system, a circuit arrangement is provided which includes a multitude of circuit breakers, each of which is operable by remote control in at least open and closed circuit positions. A circuit breaker control circuit is included and has a termination circuit which interprets circuit breaker control signals from an external switch device, a circuit breaker driver board which controls and monitors the multitude of circuit breakers, input means and a data path for receiving manual input instructions, a data port and a data path for receiving programming data from an external device, and a switch input data path, coupled to the termination circuit, for carrying circuit breaker switch instructions from the termination circuit. The control circuit responds to the manual input instructions, programming data and circuit breaker switch instructions according to a prioritization scheme.

Electrical distribution system having controller responsive to multiple

In a panelboard for controlling current paths through a plurality of associated circuit breakers, a panelboard enclosure includes circuit breakers which each have a side facing a front side of the enclosure and including a multi-sectioned user interface circuit, that is configured to communicate with at least one of the circuit breakers. The interface circuit includes a first circuit section and a second circuit section. The first circuit section is located adjacent the back wall of the enclosure and behind the second circuit section, and the second circuit section includes communication means for allowing an operator at the front of the enclosure to communicate with the circuit breakers. This arrangement minimizes heat in the back of the enclosure, provides control and monitoring functions at the front of the enclosure and allows room for additional circuitry in the back of the enclosure. An automatic interpreter may be included in the enclosure for interpreting a coded message which provides the operator access to control the circuit breakers. Preferably, the coded message is received on a coded key card.

Panelboard arrangement with improved control

In an electrical distribution system for controlling current paths through a plurality of associated circuit breakers, a programmable circuit arrangement operates the circuit breakers by remote control in at least the open and closed circuit positions. The circuit arrangement includes a termination circuit for receiving different kinds of remote control signals, each of which is associated with one of the circuit breakers for commanding that each of the circuit breakers open or close its associated current path. The arrangement also includes a programmable controller, which responds to each of the different kinds of remote control signals and to a user-defined program indicating the kind of remote control signal which commands the associated circuit breaker, for generating control signals. An interface circuit then responds to the generated control signals by controlling the circuit breakers between the open and closed positions. The programmable controller may also include a display for indicating the status of the circuit breakers locally and/or remotely.

Electrical distribution system having mappable control inputs

A remotely controllable circuit breaker device for interrupting power in a circuit path between a source and a load includes local and remote monitoring capabilities and a worm-gear mechanism for reliable control of the interruption mechanism. The device includes a first contact and a second contact cooperatively arranged in the circuit path so as to provide current from the source to the load. At least one of the contacts are movable for interrupting the power provided to the load. The worm gear mechanism includes a motor with a rotatable shaft which responds to open and closed control signals generated from a remote location, and a gear, rotatably responsive to the rotatable shaft, for controlling the movable contact so that the circuit path is interrupted and established, respectively. The worm gear mechansim controls the movable contact using a coupling arrangement, which has a first part coupled to the movable contact and a second part coupled to the gear.
