A docking station is provided for a computing device. The docking station may be used by, for example, a mobile computing device, such as a cellular or wireless telephony/messaging device. The docking station includes a housing comprising a receiving surface top receive and retain the mobile computing device. An inductive signal transfer interface is included with the housing to inductively signal at least one of power or data to the mobile computing device. The docking station further provides an output component and processing resources. The processing resources are configured to detect placement of the mobile computing device on the receiving surface. The data is received from the mobile computing device, and an output is signaled to the output component based on the received data.

Extending device functionality amongst inductively linked devices

An electronic device comprises a microphone, a transceiver circuit, a loudspeaker, a sense element and a processing circuit. The microphone is configured to receive a first audio signal. The transceiver circuit is configured to communicate the first audio signal to a remote device and to receive a second audio signal from the remote device. The loudspeaker is configured to provide an audible signal based on the second audio signal. The sense element is configured to sense the audible signal provided by the loudspeaker. The sense element may be positioned at a distance from the loudspeaker different than a distance between the microphone and the loudspeaker. The processing circuit is configured to process at least one of the first audio signal and the second audio signal based on a sensed signal from the sense element.

System and method for improved loudspeaker functionality

A speaker component for a portable electronic device which accepts a receiver and redirects the sound emitted from the receiver toward the speaker hole in the device housing is disclosed. The receiver may be oriented such that sound is directed away from the speaker hole to reduce the footprint of the receiver within the device housing. A channel of the speaker component may redirect or port the sound to the speaker hole. Accordingly, embodiments provide more flexibility for positioning of the speaker hole and the receiver with respect to the device housing. The speaker component may also have a self-contained back volume chamber adjoining the receiver which does not include portions of the device housing or other components of the portable electronic device, thereby improving the sound quality of the sound emitted from the receiver and providing more flexibility as to the size and shape of the back volume chamber.

Speaker component for a portable electronic device

An electronic device comprises an earpiece speaker, a loudspeaker, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit is configured to receive a wireless telephony audio signal, to separate the audio signal into a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having higher frequency components than the second portion, wherein the processing circuit is configured to provide the first portion of the audio signal to the earpiece speaker and the second portion of the audio signal to the loudspeaker.
