Method and apparatus for managing item sequence numbers in an item processing system. The invention provides for overrun prevention and management of item sequence numbers, which form a part of an image key. In example embodiments, a buffer is provided to determine how close a current item sequence number (ISN) is permitted to be to an overrun value. When the current ISN reaches the buffer value, new entries of documents are prevented or at least restricted from being processed. In some embodiments, a 'force mode' is provided in which a sorter can be made to start a new entry even if the buffer value has been exceeded. In such an embodiment, the system can be set up so that a hard stop is enforced when the ISN is within a certain range of the overrun value.

Method and apparatus for managing item sequence numbers in an item processing system

Stored documents can be recognized and identified by evaluation of their attributes from an image file to obtain a document specification that can be compared to stored data about the document. The image file is analyzed using a processor in order to discern image attributes. The image attributes form a specification for the document in the image. This specification can then be compared to the stored criteria using the processor, and the result of the comparison can be stored. An embodiment of the invention can be used in a check processing system for a financial institution. In such a case, the corresponding data comprises MICR data and the image attributes can, for example, indicate whether the document is a check in a carrier, as opposed a paper check by itself.

Identifying stored documents by evaluating image attributes

The present invention provides systems, methods, and computer program products for performing validation and clearance at a transaction item level for transaction received in a batch format. Each transaction of the batch is stored separately in a storage system, such as a logical database. Typically, image data and electronic data for a transaction are stored separately in the storage system and may be linked to each other. Each transaction is separately accessible and/or updateable. Each transaction stored in the storage system is separately analyzed to validate that the transaction is at least balanced. Transactions that determined to be balanced are cleared irrespective of a balance status associated with other transactions associated with the batch of transactions, such that transactions are individually cleared as opposed to being cleared in a batch format.

Systems, methods, and computer program products for performing item level transaction processing

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a method that includes receiving a plurality of paper financial items, scanning each of the paper financial items, and for each paper financial item, generating a plurality of data sets based on the scanning. For each data set, it may be determined whether the associated paper financial item is a bank of first deposit (BOFD) item or a non-BOFD item. Also, for each data set, the data set may be modified depending upon whether the associated paper financial item is determined to be a BOFD item or a non-BOFD item. Further aspects are directed to systems that perform the above method.
