A flow control system for an irrigation sprinkler can include a service valve having an inlet, a first fluid port, a second fluid port, a third fluid port, and/or a valve piston having a valve piston inlet and a valve piston outlet. The system can include a pilot valve and a vent line. The system can include a filter in fluid communication with the inlet of the service valve. The valve piston can be configured to move vertically with respect to the first, second, and third fluid ports between first, second, and third valve positions.

An irrigation sprinkler can include an outer case having an inlet end and an outlet end. The sprinkler can include a riser positioned at least partially within the outer case and having an upstream end and a downstream end. The riser can be configured to transition between a retracted position and an extended position wherein the downstream end is positioned on a side of the outlet end of the outer case opposite the inlet end of the outer case when the riser is in the extended position. The sprinkler can include a cup assembly connected to the downstream end of the riser, the cup assembly including organic or artificial turf therein, wherein the cup assembly is configured to be removed from the riser without emptying the turf therefrom.

A valve module for an irrigation sprinkler can include an upper valve support housing and a lower support basket removably connected to the valve support housing. The module can include a valve member reciprocable within the valve support housing to engage and disengage a valve seat in the support basket. The valve member can include a piston and valve seal removably attached to the piston and configured to be serviced or replaced separate from the piston when removed from the piston.

An irrigation sprinkler can include a riser and a nozzle turret rotatably mounted at an upper end of the riser. A drive assembly supported in the riser can be coupled to the nozzle turret for rotating the nozzle turret. The drive assembly can have a reversing gear drive, a reversing mechanism, and a manually adjustable arc setting mechanism including a pair of arc tabs. A position of one of the arc tabs is adjustable through the arc setting mechanism to change a size of an angle through which the nozzle turret oscillates back and forth. The manually adjustable arc setting mechanism is further adjustable to allow the nozzle turret to continuously rotate.

An irrigation sprinkler includes an outer case, a riser telescopically extensible from the outer case, and a nozzle at an upper end of the riser. A coil spring surrounds the riser and normally holds the riser in a lower retracted position within the outer case. The coil spring is dimensioned and configured to permit extension of the riser to a raised upper position when pressurized water is introduced into the outer case. A shock absorber is positioned between a lower end of the riser and a rigid structure in the lower end of case for lessening the forces otherwise exerted on the riser during rapid retraction of the riser.

An irrigation sprinkler includes a riser and a nozzle turret rotatably mounted at an upper end of the riser. A drive assembly is supported in the riser and is coupled to the nozzle turret for rotating the nozzle turret. The drive assembly has a reversing planetary gear drive, a reversing mechanism, and a manually adjustable arc setting mechanism including a pair of arc tabs. A position of one of the arc tabs is adjustable through the arc setting mechanism to change a size of an angle through which the nozzle turret oscillates back and forth. The manually adjustable arc setting mechanism is further adjustable to allow the nozzle turret to continuously rotate.

An irrigation sprinkler has a riser assembly that includes a rotatably mounted nozzle turret, a secondary nozzle holder removably mounted on the nozzle turret, and a turbine. A drive assembly is mounted in the riser assembly and couples the turbine and the nozzle turret so that pressurized water entering a lower end of the riser assembly will cause the nozzle turret to rotate. The nozzle turret has a primary nozzle and the secondary nozzle holder has at least one secondary nozzle.

An irrigation sprinkler has a generally tubular riser assembly including a nozzle turret rotatably mounted at an upper end of the riser assembly and a drive assembly coupled for rotating the nozzle turret. The riser assembly has at least one locking recess formed in a lower end of the riser assembly. A debris screen is removably mounted to a lower end of the riser assembly. The debris screen is formed with a plurality of apertures for filtering debris from water flowing through the apertures. The debris screen is dimensioned and configured to mate with the lower end of the riser assembly. The debris screen has at least one lock that is dimensioned and configured to be received in the locking recess for holding the debris screen to the riser assembly. In an alternate embodiment, the lock can be located on the lower end of the riser assembly and the recess can be located on the screen.

A nozzle turret for an irrigation sprinkler includes a body having a rotational axis and a nozzle socket extending transverse to the rotational axis. A nozzle is removably received in the socket. A sleeve in the body opens on a top side of the body and defines a bore that communicates with the socket. A nozzle retention screw with a shank having a lower male threaded segment is screwed into the bore of the sleeve from the top side of the body. The shank extends into the socket a sufficient depth to retain the nozzle in the socket. The screw has a head that abuts an upper end of the sleeve when the screw is fully screwed in a downward direction into the sleeve. The screw shank has an upper unthreaded segment with a predetermined longitudinal dimension selected relative to a longitudinal dimension of the bore to enable the screw to be unscrewed in an upward direction from the sleeve despite stripping of a segment of a female threaded portion of the bore.

A sprinkler includes a riser, an impeller mounted in the riser, and a nozzle rotatably mounted at an upper end of the riser. A drive assembly including a reduction gear train couples the impeller and the nozzle. A clutch in the drive assembly includes a clutch member having an axis of rotation that provides a positive drive connection under a normal load and axially displaces and slips under an excessive load.

A sprinkler includes a riser, an impeller mounted in the riser, and a nozzle rotatably mounted at an upper end of the riser. A drive assembly couples the impeller and the nozzle. A clutch in the drive assembly includes a radially deformable collet that surrounds a drive shaft. A spring urges the collet against the drive shaft and provides a positive drive connection under a normal load and slips under an excessive load.

An irrigation sprinkler includes a head having a first water outlet passage that communicates with a nozzle receiving socket. A nozzle is slidably mounted in the nozzle receiving socket. The nozzle includes a hollow support body defining a second water outlet passage that communicates with the first water outlet passage. The nozzle also includes a portion obstructing the second water passage and defining a nozzle orifice. The nozzle also includes a cantilevered pry flange that extends in a lateral direction from an outer end of the support body. The pry flange has a portion that terminates short of a wall of the nozzle receiving socket to create a gap sized for ready insertion of a tool to facilitate removal of the nozzle from the nozzle receiving socket. The sprinkler includes conventional structure for supplying the first water outlet passage of the head with pressurized water.

A modular expandable irrigation controller has controls for manual entry or selection of a watering program and a memory for storing the watering program. A processor executes the stored watering program and controls one or more station modules each including a station module circuit for energizing at least one solenoid actuated valve in accordance with the watering program. The irrigation controller has a plurality of receptacles for each removably receiving a station module and for providing an operative connection to the processor. A manually movable locking member is grasped and moved between UNLOCKED and LOCKED positions to positively secure each station module in a corresponding receptacle.
