The present invention relates to an oxidatively curable coating formulation comprising an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin and a bispidon-based chelant, which chelant may optionally be complexed with a suitable transition metal ion. The formulations may be paints or other oxidatively curable coating compositions. The invention also provides methods for making such formulations and compositions resultant from the curing of such formulations.

Oxidatively curable coating composition

The present invention relates to a method of preparing an oxidatively curable coating formulation made from an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin, a complex comprising one or more manganese ions and one or more triazacyclononane-based ligands; and to the use of triazacyclononane-based ligands for accelerating the rate of curing of an alkyd-based resin formulation by such complexes. The formulations may be paints or other oxidatively curable coating compositions.

Method of preparing an oxidatively curable coating formulation

The present invention relates to a method of generating chlorine dioxide from chlorite salts in the presence of an iron ion-containing complex, a method of treating a substrate with a chlorine-containing oxidant in the presence of an iron ion-containing complex and related aqueous media, kits and compositions.

Catalysts

The present invention relates to a formulation comprising an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin and a chelating agent. More particularly, the formulation is essentially absent an amount of cations selected from the group consisting of manganese, iron, cobalt, vanadium and copper ions, which ions, if present in the formulation, will form together with the chelant a metal drier capable of accelerating oxidative curing. The invention also provides a method of making the formulation and a method of contacting the formulation with a composition comprising transition metal ions so as to provide a composition comprising an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin and a complex of the transition metal ion and the chelating agent.

Drier for alykd-based coating

Curing agents for air-drying alkyd-based resins, coatings, such as paint, varnish or wood stain, inks and linoleum floor coverings, based on an iron/manganese complex containing tetradentate, pentadentate or hexadentate nitrogen donor ligands are disclosed.

Preparation of bleaching catalysts

The present invention relates to accelerators for curing unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins, and acrylic resins in conjunction with peroxide type initiators. The accelerators are based on iron/manganese complexes of a tridentate, tetradentate, pentadentate, or hexadentate nitrogen donor ligands. Also disclosed are curable resin compositions including the forgoing accelerators and a curing process for employing these accelerators. These resin compositions show good curing properties and do not contain cobalt accelerators. The present invention further relates to gel coats and molded composites prepared from such unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, and acrylic resins.
