An easily assembled connecting block provides interconnection between modular plugs and insulated telephone wires or the like. The connecting block includes: (i) a metallic lead frame comprising a number of flat elongated conductive elements that terminate in closely spaced flat wires at one end thereof, each conductive element terminating in two pairs of insulation-displacing contact fingers at the other end; and (ii) a dielectric block for receiving the closely spaced wires within a jack housing contained therein and for supporting the metallic lead frame. In one embodiment the connectors are an integral part of the lead frame itself and are 'sandwiched' between a pair of dielectric blocks, each block having a plurality of corresponding slots for guiding wires into the region between opposing contact fingers of the connectors.

Wall mounted connecting block

An easily assembled connecting block provides interconnection between modular plugs and insulated telephone wires or the like. The connecting block includes: (i) a metallic lead frame comprising a number of flat elongated conductive elements that terminate in closely spaced flat wires at one end thereof, (ii) an equal number of metallic connectors that electrically couple to the conductive elements of the lead frame and further provide at least two pairs of opposing contact fingers for insulation displacement; and (iii) a dielectric block for receiving the closely spaced wires within a jack housing contained therein and for supporting the metallic lead frame. In one embodiment the connectors are an integral part of the lead frame itself and are 'sandwiched' between a pair of dielectric blocks, each block having a plurality of corresponding slots for guiding wires into the region between opposing contact fingers of the connectors.

Connecting block construction

The invention relates to an improvement in an electrical telecommunications adapter (20) for coupling the terminating plug of a telephone set to appropriate wires of a 25-pair telephone distribution cable, the adapter comprising a 50-pin connector (21) of which the pins are adapted to be coupled to fixed contacts in turn coupled to such wires, a hood (22) for the connector and a jack (23) disposed in said hood and adapted to receive such plug. The improvement involves a structure for coupling the jack and hood, the structure comprising vertical slots (55) formed in the sidewalls (37) of the hood and corresponding vertical ribs (60) formed on the transversely opposite sides of the jack, such ribs being adapted by resilient spreading and subsequent restoration of sidewalls (37), to enter into such slots and provide a snap-fit between the jack and hood.

A cord adapter (100), which includes a modular connector assembly (110) and a cover (270), is disclosed for use by a telephone customer to terminate a telephone mounting cord (10) comprising a plurality of insulated conductors (16) without spade terminals (12) at their ends. The modular connector assembly includes insulation-piercing contacts (184) and a conductor receptacle (240) with orifices (252) for receiving the insulated conductors, while the cover includes surfaces (289) which press the receptacle against the contacts to establish reliable electrical connection between the conductors and the contacts when the cover is fastened to the assembly.

Cord adapter

An electrical jack assembly for a modular telephone (10) utilizing the combination of a grommet (36), washer (38), and cap (40) to seal the jack opening (30) when a modular telephone cord plug (12) is inserted. The washer (38) includes a pair of projections (86, 88) which pass through slots (64, 66) in the grommet and enter slots (32, 34) within the jack frame (26), whereby the washer (38) and grommet (36) are keyed and prevented from turning. The cap (40) fits over the washer (38) and grommet (36) and couples with a threaded sleeve (28) on the jack frame (26).
