Named compounds are useful in making dry analytical elements for assaying lithium in serum. The compounds have the general structure: ##STR1## wherein R, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and X are as presented below:

14-crown-4-ether derivatives

A novel 14-crown 4-ether derivative is disclosed for use in a dry analytical element for assaying lithium.

Dry analytical element for lithium assay

Intermediate compounds for the preparation of useful 14-crown-4-ether derivatives are presented. The intermediates have the structure: ##STR1## wherein R represents CH.sub.3, n-C.sub.12 H.sub.25 and CH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5 ; and R.sub.2 represents CH.sub.3, and n-C.sub.7 H.sub.15.

Intermediates for making 14-crown-4-ether derivatives

A photocrosslinkable polymer and imaging element containing said polymer are described wherein acid resistance is achieved by vinyl ester recurring units. A process for etching an element so prepared features exposure, development, and etching in an acid bath.
