The disclosure relates to devices and systems for configurable, contaminant-specific water filtration and treatment under pressure. In particular, the disclosure relates to a contaminant-specific configurable and modular water filter and a water filtration system maintained under positive or negative pressure, comprising modular housings, each housing defining a plurality of reconfigurable compartments operable to accommodate contaminant-specific filtering units in an order configured to minimize pressure drop along the flow direction of the water.

Portable water filter

A device that includes a conduit, a first window, a second window, a first catalyzed layer, a second catalyzed layer, an optical source, and an optical detector is disclosed. The conduit may be configured to receive an exhaust gas. The first catalyzed layer may be disposed on the first window and the second catalyzed layer may be disposed on the second window. The first catalyzed layer and the second catalyzed layer may be configured to cause a reaction with soot in the exhaust gas at an activation temperature to reduce accumulation of the soot on the first window and the second window. The optical source may be configured to emit a beam of light into the conduit through the first window. The optical detector may be configured to receive at least a portion of the beam of light through the second window.

Soot measurement system

The present disclosure relates to exhaust treatment systems and engine systems. In one implementation, an engine system comprises an engine comprising an intake manifold and an exhaust manifold, the engine configured to combust a fuel-air mixture received via the intake manifold and produce a flow of exhaust gases via the exhaust manifold. The engine system also comprises a turbocharger comprising a turbine, an exhaust passageway fluidly connecting the exhaust manifold of the engine to the turbine and an intake passageway fluidly connected to the intake manifold of the engine for supplying the fuel-air mixture, a catalyzed member positioned along the exhaust passageway between the engine and the turbine, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) loop fluidly connected downstream of the catalyzed member and fluidly connected to the exhaust passageway and the intake passageway.

A gaseous fuel engine system includes an exhaust controller coupled with a temperature sensor and a NOx sensor, and structured to actuate open an electrically actuated bypass valve to bypass an oxidation catalyst with exhaust, based on an exhaust temperature and an exhaust NOx amount to mitigate production of yellow smoke. Yellow smoke mitigation logic may run during startup and when the gaseous fuel engine is in a lower part of an engine load range. The yellow smoke mitigation logic can be selectively triggered in response to transient engine load increases when the gaseous fuel engine is operating in an upper part of an engine load range.

Selective catalytic reduction systems are known and are generally included in exhaust systems of diesel engines in order to treat the exhaust gases of such engines. Such systems involve the introduction of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust passage of an engine. When dosing DEF onto a hydrolysis catalyst in a SCR system, the DEF will under certain conditions cool the hydrolysis catalyst sufficiently to either slow down or effectively prevent ammonia release, which creates a lag or delay in the function of the hydrolysis catalyst. This limits the amount of control which can be exerted over ammonia storage in the SCR catalyst, and NOx conversion. In a first step, a set of measurement data is received from one or more sensors provided in the system. Subsequently, a first set of characteristics associated with a state of a component of the catalytic system, a second set of characteristics associated with an output of the catalytic system and a third set of characteristics associated with a bias and a scaling factor in the system are derived. In a third step, the derived sets of characteristics are used to control the catalytic system.

Method and apparatus for selective catalytic reduction system

A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for treating exhaust gas from a diesel engine is provided, along with a method of assembling such a system. The system comprises a frame, a SCR catalyst contained within a SCR canister, and an ammonia oxidation catalyst contained within an ammonia oxidation canister. Each of the SCR and ammonia oxidation canisters is removably attached to the frame.

Compact selective catalytic reduction system

Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems are known and are generally included in the exhaust systems of diesel engines in order to treat the exhaust gases of such engines. Such systems typically involve the introduction of a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust passage of an engine. DEF dosing systems are limited by the amounts of DEF that can be delivered without deposits forming on surfaces of the aftertreatment system. An impaction device is dosed with DEF at a first rate based on a set of characteristics of the SCR system. A second set of characteristics, such as an available storage capacity for DEF, is determined based on a set of criteria, such as a decomposition rate of DEF. Based on the second set of characteristics, the DEF dosing rate is changed to a second rate. The dosing rate is reverted to the first rate after a second set of criteria, e.g. a lower threshold of available storage for DEF, are fulfilled.

Method and apparatus for a selective catalytic reduction system

A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system is provided for treating exhaust gas in an exhaust passage. The system comprises a hydrolysis catalyst located in the exhaust passage, and a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dosing unit configured to inject DEF onto the hydrolysis catalyst. A SCR catalyst is located in the passage downstream of the hydrolysis catalyst, and a controller controls DEF dosing by the dosing unit. The controller is configured to control the DEF dosing unit such that the DEF is injected at a modulated frequency of less than or equal to 1 Hertz. A method of treating exhaust gas in an exhaust passage using an SCR system is also provided.

Selective catalytic reduction system

A system and method for co-production of hydrogen and electrical power includes operating an engine having an electrical power generator connected thereto, and a hydrogen gas production plant, from a single source of gaseous fuel such that hydrogen extracted from a heated reformate provided by a partial oxidation catalyst is removed and collected for storage or sale while a tail gas is recirculated to an engine inlet to reduce NOx emissions during engine operation.

Hydrogen and electric power co-production system and method

A method of treating exhaust gas in an exhaust passage using a selective catalytic reduction system is provided. The system comprises a hydrolysis catalyst in the passage upstream of a SCR catalyst, and a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dosing unit for injecting DEF onto the hydrolysis catalyst at a variable DEF dosing rate. The method comprises the steps of predicting an initial DEF dosing rate for converting all nitrogen oxide (NOx) contained in the exhaust gas, and estimating an amount of ammonia stored on the SCR catalyst. The method further comprises the steps of measuring a NOx conversion rate for the system, and adjusting the initial DEF dosing rate based upon the ammonia storage estimate and the measured NOx conversion rate to produce a first adjusted DEF dosing rate. An amount of ammonia-equivalent stored on the hydrolysis catalyst is then estimated, and the first adjusted DEF dosing rate is adjusted based upon the ammonia-equivalent storage estimate to produce a second adjusted DEF dosing rate. DEF is then injected at the second adjusted DEF dosing rate.

A device that includes a window, a catalyzed layer, and a laser source is disclosed. The window may include a first surface and a second surface. The catalyzed layer may be disposed on the first surface of the window. The catalyzed layer may include a compound having a threshold transmittance, and be configured to cause a reaction with soot in one or more of a combustion chamber or a pre-combustion chamber of a combustion engine at an activation temperature to reduce accumulation of soot on the window. The laser source may be disposed relative to the second surface of the window, and configured to emit a laser beam through the window and the catalyzed layer. The laser beam may be configured to cause ignition of an intake charge of one or more of the combustion chamber or the pre-combustion chamber.

An apparatus for detecting urea deposits in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine is provided, where the urea is introduced into the exhaust pipe in an aqueous urea solution via a nozzle. The apparatus comprises at least one radiation receiver which, in use, is located within the exhaust pipe downstream of the nozzle. The apparatus further comprises an electronic control unit in communication with the receiver, wherein the receiver communicates radiation data to the control unit which allows the control unit to establish whether deposits have formed within the exhaust pipe. A control valve is also provided which controls flow of the solution to the nozzle in response to signals from the control unit. A method of detecting urea deposits in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine is also provided, as in an automotive vehicle incorporating the aforementioned apparatus.

The present disclosure relates to a heating system for an exhaust gas treatment system. The heating system comprises a first heating element comprising a receiving surface for receiving a reductant fluid and a second heating element, which may surround the first heating element. The second heating element may be a thermochemincal or thermophysical device. In a first mode of operation the second heating element is arranged to receive thermal energy from engine exhaust gas. In second mode of operation the second heating element transfers thermal energy to heat the first heating element.

Heating system for an exhaust gas treatment system

A reactor assembly is provided. The reactor assembly includes a substrate and a first catalytic layer provided on the substrate. The first catalytic layer further includes a first temperature zone configured to operate at a first temperature. The first catalytic layer further includes a second temperature zone extending from the first temperature zone. The second temperature zone is configured to operate at a second temperature. The second temperature is lower than the first temperature. The reactor assembly also includes a diffusion barrier coating provided on the first catalytic layer. The diffusion barrier coating is configured to regulate a diffusion of gas phase oxygen therethrough for controlling the first temperature with respect to the second temperature.
