A method of constructing an injection well for a geothermal energy system comprising determining a fracture area of an injection well with a curved wellbore by inputting the curved wellbore path, a set of formation properties, and a fracturing operation, into a fracturing model. The curved wellbore path can promote fracture interference between fracture stresses extending from the injection wellbore. A production model can determine an economic value of the production fluids produced from at least one production well by determining a contact time for the injection fluids to traverse the formation. A design process can iterate the curved wellbore path of the injection well to produce a production fluid with an economic value above a threshold value.

Provided are methods and systems for combining hydrogen supply and fuel cell processes for increased efficiency of electricity generation. The method may include decomposing methane to produce at least hydrogen, introducing at least a portion of the hydrogen to a fuel cell to generate at least electricity and heat, and capturing at least a portion of the heat from the fuel cell to reduce an electricity requirement for the methane decomposition. The system may include a methane preheater, a reaction system, a hydrogen storage system, a hydrogen fuel cell, and a heat recovery unit. The reaction system may comprise one or more reaction chambers containing a liquid base fluid, carrier droplets and a catalyst, wherein the reaction system is configured to decompose methane. The heat recovery unit may be configured to supply waste heat from the hydrogen fuel cell to the methane preheater.

Introduced herein are system and method for precisely determining the actual location of a standing wave created within a wellbore as well as other key properties about the created wave. The introduced system and method utilize a fiber optic sensing system, such as fiber optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system, that actively interrogates and monitors fiber optic sensors along the length of a wellbore. The introduced system and method generate one or more pressure pulses that combine with one another to create a standing wave within a wellbore and process the acoustic response of the standing wave using the fiber optic DAS system over a wide range of frequencies. Based on the measurements, the introduced system and method determine the actual location of the created standing wave and move it to a desired location within the wellbore by adjusting one or more properties of the pressure pulses.

Systems and methods are provided for receiving diagnostics data of a hydraulic fracturing completion of a wellbore, accessing a fracture formation model that models formation characteristics of fractures formed through the wellbore into a formation surrounding the wellbore during the hydraulic fracture completion with respect to surface variables of the hydraulic fracturing completion, selecting one or more subsurface objective functions from a plurality of subsurface objective functions for changing one or more of the formation characteristics of the fractures, and applying the fracture formation model based on the diagnostics data to determine values of the surface variables for controlling the formation characteristics of the fractures to converge on the one or more subsurface objective functions.

Methods and compositions for enhancing the flow rate and heat transfer efficiency of wellbores and/or propped fractures for use in geothermal operations are provided. In some embodiments, the methods comprise: injecting an etching agent into an injection inlet of a first wellbore penetrating a first portion of a subterranean formation, wherein the injection inlet is disposed at a first location at or near a surface of the subterranean formation; injecting a working fluid having a first temperature into the injection inlet; allowing at least a portion of the working fluid to flow from the injection inlet to a production outlet of a second wellbore penetrating a second portion of the subterranean formation; and producing the portion of the working fluid out of the production outlet at a first rate and at a second temperature that is higher than the first temperature.

Methods and fluids for enhancing friction reduction. An example method introduces a treatment fluid into a wellbore tubing disposed in a wellbore. The wellbore tubing is composed of metal ions. The treatment fluid is composed of an aqueous fluid and a metal silicate. The method further includes coating at least a portion of the wellbore tubing with a silicate film produced from the reaction of the metal silicate with the metal ions of the wellbore tubing and then fracturing the subterranean formation.

Enhancing friction reduction and protection of wellbore equipment during hydraulic fracturing

The disclosure provides a method and system for extracting carbon dioxide from an exhaust gas. The method includes lowering a temperature of an exhaust gas using a heat exchanger, lowering a concentration of a particulate matter within the lowered temperature exhaust gas, and passing the lowered particulate concentration and lowered temperature exhaust gas through one or more membrane modules to produce a membrane module permeate flow that contains a higher concentration of carbon dioxide compared to a concentration of carbon dioxide in the lowered particulate concentration and lowered temperature exhaust gas. Further, the system includes a heat exchanger fluidly coupled to a particulate filter that is configured to lower a concentration of the particulate matter within the exhaust gas, and one or more membrane modules fluidly coupled to the particulate filter and configured to produce the membrane module permeate flow.

The apparatus includes force application fixtures configured to apply opposing compressive forces to a disc-shaped sample of a core plug specimen from the rock formation.
