Processes for using pyrolysis gas as a feedstock or a co-feedstock for making a variety of chemicals, for example, circular ethylene, circular ethylene polymers and copolymers, and other circular products. In these processes, pyrolysis reactor conditions can be selected to increase or optimized the production of pyrolysis gas over pyrolysis oil, and the pyrolysis gas which is usually used as fuel or flared can be fed downstream of the steam cracker furnace for economic use to form circular chemicals. Operating parameters of the pyrolysis unit may be adjusted to increase or decrease the proportion of pyrolysis gas relative to pyrolysis liquid as a function of their relative economic values.

Pyrolysis of plastic waste to produce light gaseous hydrocarbons and integration with an ethylene cracker

This disclosure relates to the production of chemicals and plastics using pyrolysis oil from the pyrolysis of plastic waste as a co-feedstock along with a petroleum-based, fossil fuel-based, or bio-based feedstock. In an aspect, the polymers and chemicals produced according to this disclosure can be certified under International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) provisions as circular polymers and chemicals at any point along complex chemical reaction pathways. The use of a mass balance approach which attributes the pounds of pyrolyzed plastic products derived from pyrolysis oil to any output stream of a given unit has been developed, which permits ISCC certification agency approval.

A method of making a catalyst for use in oligomerizing an olefin comprising a chromium-containing compound, a pyrrole-containing compound, a metal alkyl, a halide-containing compound, and optionally a solvent, the method comprising contacting a composition comprising the chromium-containing compound and a composition comprising the metal alkyl, wherein the composition comprising the chromium-containing compound is added to the composition comprising the metal alkyl.

A method of making a catalyst for use in oligomerizing an olefin, comprising a chromium-containing compound, a pyrrole-containing compound, a metal alkyl, a halide-containing compound, and optionally a solvent, the method comprising abating all or a portion of water, acidic protons, or both from a composition comprising the chromium-containing compound, a composition comprising the pyrrole-containing compound, a composition comprising a non-metal halide-containing compound, a composition comprising the solvent, or combinations thereof prior to contact thereof with a composition comprising a metal halide-containing compound.

A method of making an olefin oligomerization catalyst, comprising contacting a chromium-containing compound, a heteroatomic ligand, and a metal alkyl, wherein the chromium-containing compound comprises less than about 5 weight percent chromium oligomers. A method of making an olefin oligomerization catalyst comprising a chromium-containing compound, a nitrogen-containing compound, and a metal alkyl, the method comprising adding a composition comprising the chromium-containing compound to a composition comprising the metal alkyl. In one embodiment, we disclose hardened olefin waxes and processes for preparing them. In another embodiment, we disclose oxidized olefin waxes having low viscosity and processes for preparing them. The waxes are suitable for use as polishes, coatings, or inks, among other uses. For example, a hardened olefin wax composition produced from a feedstock olefin wax composition by contacting the feedstock olefin wax composition with an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature greater than a melting point of the feedstock olefin wax composition, the hardened olefin wax composition having: a needle penetration value at 25&#xb0; C. at least 5 percent less than a needle penetration value at 25&#xb0; C. of the feedstock olefin wax composition; a a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of up to about 200% greater than the kinematic viscosity of the feedstock olefin wax composition; and a saponification number less than 5 mg KOH/g hardened olefin wax composition.

Olefin waxes having improved hardness or viscosity

A novel alkylation catalyst is described which is used in processes for alkylating olefin hydrocarbons with isoparaffin hydrocarbons to produce high octane alkylate products suitable for use as a blending component of gasoline motor fuel. The novel catalyst comprises a mixture of a hydrogen halide and a sulfone. The novel alkylation catalyst is utilized in a novel process for alkylating olefin hydrocarbons with isoparaffin hydrocarbons.

Isoparaffin-olefin alkylation

A process to oxidize an olefin wax, comprising: contacting a feedstock olefin wax composition with an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature greater than a melting point of the feedstock olefin wax composition melting point, to prepare an oxidized olefin wax composition wherein the oxidized olefin wax composition has an acid number greater than 1 mg KOH/g oxidized olefin wax composition and a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. less than 70 cSt.
