Methods, systems, and executable instructions are provided for selecting an optimal tree summary operation. Tree summary operations are evaluated based on their efficiencies in calculating a tree summary from a tree having a plurality of nodes. Moreover, in one embodiment, by using tree constants and processing constants the efficiencies of the tree summary operations are determined. Once the efficiencies of the tree summary operations are determined, one of the tree summary operations is selected as an optimal tree summary operation for calculating the tree summary of the tree.

Selecting tree summary operations for a tree

Techniques and devices for automatically identifying a local device are provided. An adapting device is interposed in between a local device and a central processing device. The adapting device receives a unique transmission frequency from the processing device over electrical power lines. The unique transmission frequency is communicated to the local device and is used by the local device and the processing device for subsequent communications. Moreover, in some embodiments, the local device provides a local device type to the adapting device that is sent by the adapting device to the processing device and used by the processing device to identify a command set recognized by the local device. In other embodiments, the adapting device translates messages sent from the processing device and communicates the messages to the local device. Furthermore, in some embodiments, the adapting device translates messages sent from the local device and communicates the messages to the processing device.

A logical data model is generated based on business rule metadata, data source characteristics, and cleansing, transformation, and householding metadata. A physical data model and extraction and loading routines are generated from the logical data model. A physical database design (PDD) and data description language (DDL) are created for constructing a data warehouse. The data warehouse is constructed according to the PDD and DDL. Data is moved from the data source to the system database for cleansing, transforming, and householding. The data is then loaded into the data warehouse.

Method of generating a logical data model, physical data model, extraction routines and load routines

The mechanism is directed to a method and apparatus which provides a technique and tools to allow a combination of existing customer databases to be used by transforming a portion of the data in the existing data warehouses into a second data structure. Advantageously, greater functionality can be achieved by using new application programs while existing application programs can continue to be used without changes to code of the existing applications.

Matching/merging two data warehouse physical data models

A method of compressing data utilizes the prime number series to generate unique compression parameters that may be used to recover an original data stream. The original data is converted from a binary form to a decimal form. Various compression parameters are selected to initialize the system. The compression parameters include the number of prime numbers which will be used in the compression process and an exponential value corresponding to each prime number. A header is constructed which includes the compression parameters. The data is compressed by a compression algorithm which performs successive division operations by the series of prime numbers selected. The compression algorithm generates a plurality of exponential values corresponding to each of the prime numbers. The header is then assembled with the exponential values and transmitted to a receiving station. In decompressing the data, the prime numbers are raised to the exponential value generated by the compression algorithm, and their product is taken. A fault parameter may be generated to compensate for numbers not readily divisible by the prime number selected in the initialization parameters.

Compression of data transmission by use of prime exponents

The present invention is provided by installing a piece of computer software on a Windows NT system to enable the Windows NT system to bypass messages sent by a Unix system while communications are being established over a phone line between the two operating systems. The Unix operating system has a communications protocol which sends out messages during and requires a password and login to establish communications. The present invention provides a port grabbing routine, a skipping routine, a calling program and a Unix emulator to enable the Windows NT system to establish communications with the Unix system without having to alter the Unix system in any way.
