Catalytic cracking catalysts/additives which comprise rare-earth, preferably lanthanum, oxide and/or oxychloride dispersed in an acid reacted metakaolin matrix. The catalysts/additives may be combined with zeolite-containing cracking catalysts to enhance catalytic activity/selectivity in the presence of metals (Ni and V).

Catalytic cracking catalysts and additives

Sulfur oxide gettering agents which comprise a metal sulfate, such as magnesium sulfate, are described. These getterin agents are used to reduce sulfur oxide emissions from a variety of processes and units, including fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units.

Cracking catalyst/sulfur oxide gettering agent compositions

Nitrogen containing hydrocarbon feedstocks are catalytically cracked in the presence of an acid. The acid is combined with the feedstock immediately prior to contact with a cracking catalyst in the riser section of a fluid catalytic cracking unit.

Catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons

A process for increasing the octane rating of gasoline and decreasing the quantity of coke produced by a catalytic cracking process by adding C.sub.2 to C.sub.6 linear olefins to the feed to the reactor with a zeolite containing cracking catalyst. The olefins may be added separately or mixed with the gas oil feed just before the oil preheat section ahead of the reactor.
