An improved joint construction for commercial metal doors is disclosed which utilizes a novel force transfer block. The force transfer block has spaced-apart flanges which engage corresponding reglets in a door stile. The inner faces of the flanges bear against the inner walls of the reglets. The flanges of the force transfer block are configured such that they will retain the block on the stile by way of an interference fit with the walls of the reglet. Thus the block does not have to be separately fastened to the stile. A rail abuts the stile and has a recessed portion into which the block is received. A threaded rod extends through the rail and into the stile, and tightening a threaded fastener onto each end of the rod clamps the rail securely between two stiles. The recessed portion of the rail has surfaces bearing snugly against at least two sides of the block such that twisting forces applied to the rail are transferred to the block. Twisting forces transferred to the block from the rail are transferred by the inner faces of the flanges to the inner walls of the reglets.

An adjustable setting block assembly is disclosed for supporting and leveling infill panels such as window panes and the like. The setting block assembly includes a setting block and a thrust plate positioned adjacent the lower surface of the block. A bolt is threadingly engaged within a threaded bore in the block, and the bolt has a tip which bears against the thrust plate as the bolt is advanced within the threaded bore. A load exerted on the upper surface of the block, such as by a glass light resting on the block, is thus supported by the tip of the bolt bearing against the thrust plate. In the disclosed embodiment the tip of the bolt which bears against the thrust plate is radiused to facilitate limited pivotable movement between the bolt and the thrust plate. Also in the disclosed embodiment a pad is imposed against the upper surface of the block to provide a cushioned surface for supporting the glass lite. Preferably the thrust plate and pad are temporarily affixed to the block by an adhesive bond, such as that provided by double-sided tape.

Adjustable setting block assembly

An improved adjustable center door pivot assembly is disclosed which can be mounted to a threshold without the need for a separate mounting bracket. The adjustable center pivot assembly permits the height of the pivot spindle to be adjusted without removing the door. Further, the height of the adjustable center pivot assembly which projects above the threshold is sufficiently short that the pivot assembly can be used with a standard door having a standard 21/32' web.

An improved offset door pivot is disclosed wherein the pivot is mountable to the face of a door without having to mortise or otherwise machine the door. Further, the door pivot is non-handed, such that the identical pivot can be mounted to either the right-or left-hand side of the door.

A heat insulated entrance includes a door/window having a frame comprising an elongated, tubular, metal member having an inside wall and a wall transverse thereto with a rib formed adjacent a corner at the intersection of the walls. An elongated metal cladding member having a generally channel shaped transverse cross section with a web forming an inside wall face of the door/window and a pair of edge flanges transverse thereto is secured in place on the tubular metal member by a spacer formed of heat insulating material and having one edge in supported engagement with the rib of the tubular frame member. The cladding member has an opposite edge in keyed interengaging relation with an opposite edge of the spacer to complete an insulated frame member assembly having a thermally insulating spacer element between a pair of inside and outside metal portions. The door/window is useful in combination with a heat insulating wall frame system providing a jamb surface, header and sill forming an opening in which the door/window is mounted. The invention also encompasses the conversion of existing, non-insulating type doors/windows into more efficient, heat insulating type, closure members by the addition of insulating spacers and inside metal cladding members in accordance with the invention.

A glass jack for doors, windows, walls, etc. having a rectangular frame formed with interconnected stiles and rails providing one or more rectangular openings for receiving a panel, which is mounted in the opening with an outer peripheral edge closely facing adjacent wall surfaces of the surrounding frame members. One or more glass jacks is mounted to extend between the edge of the panel and an adjacent facing wall surface of the frame members at selected point(s) for maintaining an adjustably selected spacing interval between the edge of the panel and the frame member. The glass jack includes an elongated, shank threaded into an opening in the facing wall of the frame member and a radial head having an outer edge surface with ribs and grooves thereon to facilitate manual rotation when adjusting the jacks to control the spacing interval. An outer end surface of the head is positioned to engage the edge of the panel and the end surface is formed with a small deformable annular rib coaxially aligned with respect to the shank. When the jack is tightened the rib is forced against the edge of the glass panel and is deformed in segments provide a stop at engaging corners of opposite faces of the glass panel. The stops formed at the ends of the depressed rib segments resist inadvertent rotation of the glass jacks after a selecting spacing or clearance is attained and a flat portion of the head surface extending between the depressed rib segments bears directly against the edge of the glass.

Glass jacks for doors, windows, walls, etc.

A fastener for glazed doors of the type including a glazing panel and a frame having a channel-shaped surface extending along an edge of the panel and having a web normal to a panel face and a pair of opposite flanges. The fastener includes a thin sheet metal base adapted to be mounted on the web of the frame member and having wedge arms engageable against the opposite flanges of the frame member when the body of the fastener is rotated about an axis normal to the web with a tool or other implement to securely retain the fastener in place. The fastener includes one or more fingers having a free outer end extending outwardly toward an adjacent flange of the frame member and spaced from the web in order to form a slot for receiving an inside edge of glazing strip which is positioned between the finger and the adjacent flange. The fasteners can be rapidly installed on the frame members with only a screw driver and do not require any hole drilling or punching operations or the use of any separate screws, rivets, or clips.

Fastener clip for glazed doors

The present invention relates to weather stripping materials and more particularly to a readily deformable weather stripping material for use with a building component, such as a door, having a movable structural member provided with an elongated weather strip receiving channel along a movable edge thereof. In essence, the material comprises an elongated flexible plastic strip of substantially U-shaped cross section which is adapted to be inserted into the weather strip receiving channel and is provided with a base and two spaced apart legs joining the base throughout their lengths. Each of the spaced apart legs comprises an outer end segment which is formed of a plastic material having greater flexibility than that of the companion base joining segment of the same leg, the two segments of each leg being joined together throughout their lengths. The legs are also provided with inwardly disposed elongated ridges along the lengths thereof which face toward each other and are adapted to function as fastener head retaining barriers.

Weather stripping material

A new and improved lever arm apparatus for door closers and the like is adapted to be detachably mounted on a rotary shaft and includes a lever arm formed of a thin piece of flat metal having a key-shaped opening dimensioned to receive a portion of the shaft extended transversely between opposite faces of the arm. A wedge plate or hub is adapted to be detachably mounted on one face of the lever arm and is also formed with a key-shaped opening for receiving a shaft. At least one removable fastener is provided for securing the wedge plate to the lever arm at a point outwardly of the openings and the hub or wedge plate includes a sloping cam surface engaged by the fastener for rotatably shifting the relative positions of the lever arm and wedge plate to tightly clamp the flatted surface of the key-shaped openings against the rotary shaft with a scissors-type pinching action.
