In a development system including a developer transport adapted for depositing developer material on an imaging surface having an electrostatic latent image thereon, including: a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including carrier and toner; a donor member, mounted partially in the chamber and spaced from the imaging surface, for transporting developer on an outer surface thereof to a region opposed from the imaging surface the donor member having a magnetic assembly having a plurality of poles, a sleeve, enclosing the magnetic assembly, rotating about the magnetic assembly; the magnetic assembly generating a developer bed having a predefined developer bed height; a grid, interposed between the donor roll and the imaging surface within the predefined bed height, the grid having apertures for permitting carrier and toner therethrough; and means for biasing a region between the grid and the imaging surface at a voltage potential so that toner is ejecting towards the imaging surface after toner passes the apertures of the grid.

Developer member adapted for depositing developer material on an imaging surface

A method of, and a toner purging development apparatus for, enabling clean and efficient accomplishment of custom color on demand imaging in a xerographic color machine using two component developer material. The toner purging development apparatus includes (a) a development housing defining a sump holding two component developer material including carrier particles, and a first quantity of toner particles having a first color and a charge having a first polarity; (b) a first set of devices for charging and transporting toner laden carrier particles within the sump; (c) a second set of devices for transporting the toner laden carrier particles through a development nip of the color reproduction machine, (d) toner purging apparatus for enabling clean and efficient changing of custom color on demand within the sump by removing the first quantity of toner particles having a first color from the sump, and allowing the loading into the sump of a second quantity of toner particles having a second and different color. The toner purging apparatus as shown is mounted adjacent the movable donor member and includes a corona generating device for detoning the charged toner laden carrier particles forming a first layer of toner particles and a second layer of detoned magnetic carrier particles on the surface of the donor member. The toner purging apparatus further is connected to (e) a controller that is connected to the toner purging apparatus and has a first control mode for controlling the toner purging development apparatus in a development mode, and a second control mode for controlling the toner purging development apparatus in a toner purging mode.

Toner purging development apparatus and a method of producing custom color on demand using same

A development system including a developer transport adapted for depositing developer material on an imaging surface having an electrostatic latent image thereon, including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including toner. A donor member is mounted partially in said chamber and spaced from the imaging surface, for transporting toner on an outer surface thereof to a region opposed from the imaging surface. The toner donor member has a magnetic assembly which includes a plurality of poles and a sleeve, enclosing said magnetic assembly and rotating about said magnetic assembly. A sensor measures a magnetic field of said donor roll at a predefined position on said donor roll. A control system generates an electric field continuously optimize the development of toner regardless of the ever changing height of the developer bed.

Apparatus and method for non-interactive magnetic brush development

This invention discloses a method of holding and transporting a hollow flexible belt throughout a coating process. The method includes placing an expandable insert into the hollow portion of a seamless flexible belt, and expanding the insert until it forms a chucking device with a protrusion on at least one end. A mechanical handling device is then attached to the protrusion, and will be used to move the chuck and the belt through the dipping process, as materials needed to produce a photosensitive device are deposited onto the surface of the belt, allowing it to be transformed into an organic photoreceptor. The chucking device and flexible belt are then removed from the mechanical handling device, the belt is cut to the desired width, and the chuck is removed from the inside of the photoreceptor.

Apparatus for handling and dippling flexible belts using a blow molded

An apparatus for cleaning a charge retentive surface of a photoreceptor which includes a rotating brush for cleaning the charge retentive surface of a photoreceptor. A spring or other device is used to maintain constant, uniformly distributed contact between the charge retentive surface and the rotating cleaning member together. The use of one or more pressure rollers to maintain the cleaning brush next to the photoreceptor belt can prevent undesirable friction, heat and/or static charge buildup adjacent to the photoreceptor, and can prevent photoreceptor jamming and other malfunctions. The resulting self regulating cleaning brush contact improves photoreceptor cleaning effectiveness despite brush aging, bristle wear or set, or other factors effecting the radius of the cleaning brush or its relative positioning in the photoreceptor cleaning assembly. The present invention results in the uniform distribution of the contact pressure on the photoreceptor, which may monitored and/or be controlled. A cleaning bar for dislodging debris that might otherwise remain attached to the rotating cleaning brush may also be biased towards and movable relative to the rotating brush.

Photoreceptor comet prevention brush

This invention discloses an apparatus for holding and transporting a hollow flexible belt throughout a coating process. The apparatus includes a spring and shaft assembly which is placed into the hollow portion of a seamless flexible belt. The spring portion of the assembly until it is transformed into a belt carrying chucking device. The chucking device is then attached to a mechanical handling device, and the the belt is transported through the dipping and coating process. This allows the belt to be transformed into an organic photoreceptor. The chucking device and flexible belt are then removed from the mechanical handling device, and the chuck is removed from the inside of the photoreceptor.

Method of handling and dipping flexible belts using a blow molded

An imaging process including providing an electrophotographic imaging member including a substrate, a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer including a small molecule hole transporting diarylamine, a small molecule hole transporting tritolyl amine and a film forming binder, depositing a uniform electrostatic charge on the imaging member with a corona generating device to which power is being supplied, the corona generating device comprising at least one bare metal wire adjacent to and spaced from the imaging member, exposing the imaging member with activating radiation in image configuration to form an electrostatic latent image, developing the latent image with marking particles to form a toner image, transfering the toner image to a receiving member, repeating the depositing, exposing, developing, transfering steps, resting the imaging member for at least 15 minutes under the corona generating device while the power to the corona generating device is removed and while the corona generating device is emitting sufficent effluents to render the surface region of the electrophotographic imaging member underlying the corona generating device electrically conductive if the tritolyl amine were replaced with the small molecule hole transporting diarylamine, supplying power to the corona generating device, and repeating the depositing, exposing, developing, transfering steps at least once.

Imaging process using a diarylamine and tritolylamine in a charge

An electrostatographic imaging member assembly including an electrostatographic imaging member including a substrate, an electrostatographic imaging layer, an imaging surface on the imaging layer, a back surface on the substrate, and a preformed resilient porous gas filled acoustic dampening member at least partially compressed and in pressure contact with the back surface, the pressure contact being sufficent to substantially eliminate relative movemement between the substrate and the acoustic dampening member.

A method including: (a) positioning a hollow substrate having a first end and an open second end in a solution, wherein the substrate is held by a chuck assembly and the open second end is submerged in the solution, wherein gas is present in the hollow portion of the substrate between the solution and the chuck assembly, thereby defining a quantity of trapped gas molecules; (b) removing the substrate from the solution; and (c) changing the quantity of the trapped gas molecules by (i) withdrawing a portion of the trapped gas molecules, or (ii) introducing additional gas molecules into the hollow portion, wherein (i) and (ii) are accomplished through the first end of the substrate, thereby controlling the pressure of the gas in the hollow portion.

A charging apparatus for modulating the distribution of available charge to a charge retentive surface. The charging apparatus includes a coronode wire positioned a predetermined distance away from the charge retentive surface and a charge stream dividing rod positioned between the coronode and charge retentive surface. The charge stream dividing rod has a conductive core and an insulating sheath overcoating the conductive core. Preferably, the conductive core is AC biased in order to sweep ions from the coronode wire back and forth over the charge retentive surface.
