A method of hydrotreating liquefied biomass feedstock with diesel feedstock to produce alkanes is demonstrated that prevents damage to the reactor catalyst, reduces coke production, and converts nearly all of the polyols to alkanes. In order to mitigate the potential coking issue and to moderate the temperature of the catalyst bed while maintaining high conversion for sugar alcohol to hydrocarbon via a hydrotreating process, a diesel feedstock is fed over the reactor catalyst with multiple injections of polyol feedstock along the reactor.

A biomass pyrolysis product is quenched by direct cooling with a cold quench fluid and initial product separation is performed based on boiling point and solubility in the quench fluid. A properly chosen quench fluid may act as a selective solvent, thus providing dilution of unstable precursors of pyrolytic lignin or other heavy by-products, and/or separation of certain undesirable pyrolysis oil components such as water and light acids.

Technologies to convert biomass to liquid hydrocarbon fuels are currently being developed to decrease our carbon footprint and increase use of renewable fuels. Since sugars/sugar derivatives from biomass have high oxygen content and low hydrogen content, coke becomes an issue during zeolite upgrading to liquid hydrocarbon fuels. A process was designed to reduce the coke by co-feeding sugars/sugar derivatives with a saturated recycle stream containing hydrogenated products.

The present disclosure relates generally to contaminant removal from gas streams. In certain embodiments, the present disclosure relates to a process for removing one or more contaminants from a gas stream via contact with a regenerable sorbent at high temperature and pressure, utilizing a unique arrangement of reactors operating in parallel.

Multiple fixed-fluidized beds for contaminant removal

A desulfurization system is operated in a manner which optimizes sulfur removal and octane retention. When the desulfurization reactor is operated at a specific ratio of total pressure to hydrogen partial pressure (P/P) and/or within a specific temperature range, optimum sulfur removal and octane retention are realized. The desulfurization reactor can be maintained at these optimized operating conditions by automatically adjusting one or more operating parameters of the desulfurization reactor in order to maintain a substantially constant hydrogen partial pressure (P) in the reactor. Maintaining a relatively constant hydrogen partial pressure (P) in the desulfurization reactor helps ensure a relatively consistent degree of desulfurization.

The present invention relates to a compartment for holding a towel. Said compartment is fabricated of a rectangular piece of material having a first section and a second section. The first section is permanently attached to an article of clothing and the second section acts as a flap. A process for separating olefins from sulfur-containing hydrocarbons contained in a hydrocarbon feedstock is disclosed and includes contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock with N-hydroxyethyl pyrollidone in a contacting zone, removing at least one olefin overhead from the contacting zone, and removing at least a portion of the sulfur-containing hydrocarbons off the bottom of the contacting zone along with the N-hydroxyethyl pyrollidone.

A deactivated sorbent composition is reactivated by contacting the deactivated sorbent with a reducing stream under activation conditions sufficient to reduce the amount of sulfates associated with the sorbent composition.

While contacting under regeneration conditions an oxygen-containing stream with a sorbent comprising a promoter metal and zinc sulfide which has been sulfurized by contact with sulfur-containing hydrocarbons such as cracked-gasolines and diesel fuel, the oxygen partial pressure is controlled in a range of 0.5 to 2.0 psig to minimize sulfation of the sorbent.

During the regeneration of a sulfurized sorbent comprising zinc aluminate, a promoter metal and zinc sulfide by contact with an oxygen-containing stream to convert at least a portion of said zinc sulfide to zinc oxide the average sulfur dioxide partial pressure in the regeneration zone is controlled within the range of from about 0.1 to about 10 psig to minimize sulfation of the sorbent.

Process for prolonging the effectiveness of a pyrolytic cracking tube which has been treated with an antifoulant for inhibiting the formation of coke during the cracking of hydrocarbons. The benefits of such treatment are enhanced by the desulfurization of a sulfur-containing feedstock prior to charging it to the treated pyrolytic cracking tube.
