A redriver includes a plurality of channels coupled to an interface, a number of detectors coupled to the plurality of channels, and a controller that determines an orientation of the interface based on states detected by the number of detectors. The controller determines that the interface is in a first orientation when a first combination of states is detected for the plurality of channels, and determines that the interface is in a second orientation when a second combination of states is detected for the plurality of channels.

A method and system for performing sensed garbage collection in a memory is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes measuring arrival times of read/write commands received from a processor executing an application; transforming the arrival times from a time domain to frequency domain data; locking onto a phase of the read/write commands; determining predicted arrival times of future read/write commands; creating a real-time schedule of memory requests using the arrival times of the read/write commands and the predicted arrival times of the future read/write commands; using the real-time schedule to sense idle periods where the application will not make a request of the memory; and performing garbage collection in the memory during at least one of the idle periods.

Sensed opportunistic garbage collection in memory components

A method and system for performing sensed garbage collection in a memory is disclosed. Aspects of the exemplary embodiment include measuring arrival times of read/write commands received from the processor executing an application; determining a periodicity of the read/write commands based on the arrival times; locking onto a phase of the periodicity using the read/write commands to determine predicted arrival times of future read/write commands; creating a real-time schedule of memory requests using the arrival times of the read/write commands and the predicted arrival times of the future read/write commands; using the real-time schedule to sense idle periods where the application will not make a request of the memory, and performing garbage collection during the at least one idle period.

A method and system for performing memory optimization is described. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving from a processor a plurality of read/write requests, wherein at least a portion of the read/write requests are related. Arrival times of the read/write requests that are related are measured and predicted arrival times are determined of future read/write requests that are related. The method creates a real-time schedule of memory requests using the arrival times of the read/write requests and the predicted arrival times of the future read/write requests. The real-time schedule is then used to pre-determine time periods. The method performs opportunistic functions in the memory during the pre-determined time periods, including performing at least one of garbage collection or translation cache pre-fetch.

Digital locked loop on channel tagged memory requests for memory optimization

A method and system for performing logical to physical address translations in a memory is disclosed, wherein the memory includes a translation cache containing a subset of a plurality of entries mapping logical block addresses to physical locations of the memory. Aspects of the exemplary embodiment include receiving from a processor a read/write request for a logical block and context information regarding the logical block, the context information including at least one of a relationship of the logical block to other logical blocks and a description of future activity associated with the logical block; and pre-fetching a first entry into the translation cache based on the context information so that the first entry required to satisfy a future request is available in the translation cache when the future request is received.

Channel tags in memory components for optimizing logical to physical address translations

Scheduling Direct Memory Access (DMA) operations. Blocks are provided in a first DMA chain, with each block in the first DMA chain corresponding to an operation and comprising a pair of pointers, a first pointer pointing to a command structure to be executed or a data structure to be moved, and a second pointer pointing to a next block in the first DMA chain. A DMA engine processes successive operations in the first DMA chain. Time remaining in an interval for processing the first DMA chain is tracked. A second DMA chain of conditional blocks are maintained, with each conditional block corresponding to a conditional operation and containing an estimate of time needed to complete the conditional operation. A conditional operation is executed from the second DMA chain if the remaining time in the interval is greater than the estimated time to complete processing of the conditional operation.

Periodic and conditional execution of DMA operations

A method and system for performing memory optimization is described. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a plurality of read/write requests, wherein at least a portion of the read/write requests are assigned respective identifiers for associating related requests of the read/write requests. Arrival times of the read/write requests assigned to each of the identifiers is measured and predicted arrival times of future read/write requests assigned to each of the identifiers is determined. A real-time schedule of memory requests is created using the arrival times of the read/write requests and the predicted arrival times. The method includes using the real-time schedule to determine idle periods and performing opportunistic functions in the memory during the idle periods, including performing at least one of garbage collection or translation cache pre-fetch.

A method and system for performing garbage collection in a memory is disclosed. Aspects of the exemplary embodiment include dividing garbage collection into atomic operations, including read, write, and block erase; storing read cycle times, write cycle times, and block erase cycle times of the memory; receiving a communication from a processor indicating at least one idle period when an application executing on the processor will not make a request of the memory, wherein the communication indicates a time duration of the at least one idle period; and in response, performing at least one of the garbage collection atomic operations within the time duration, whereby garbage collection can be performed during the at least one idle period, rather than when the memory is substantially full.

Demand-driven opportunistic garbage collection in memory components

A method and system for performing memory optimization. The method includes receiving from a processor a plurality of read/write requests, wherein at least a portion of the read/write requests are assigned respective identifiers for associating related ones of the read/write requests; measuring arrival times of the read/write requests assigned to each of the identifiers; determining a periodicity and a phase of the read/write requests based on the identifiers in order to determine predicted arrival times of future read/write requests assigned to each of the identifiers; creating a real-time schedule of memory requests using the arrival times of the read/write requests and the predicted arrival times of the future read/write requests; using the real-time schedule to determine idle periods where none of the read/write requests will be received; and performing opportunistic functions during the idle periods, including performing at least one of garbage collection and translation cache pre-fetch.

A method includes generating first difference frames and compressing the first difference frames to form compressed difference frames. The compressed difference frames are decompressed to form decompressed difference frames, and the decompressed difference frames are used in the generation of the first difference frames.

Compressing video frames

An internal or external device may be utilized to calibrate a digital camera for changing ambient light conditions. The device may include a surface which either provides for white light reflectivity or white light transmissivity for making a first measurement of white light intensity. A plurality of light emitting elements of known wavelengths can be used to obtain a second intensity measurement. This information may be used to calibrate the camera for changing ambient light.

Calibrating digital cameras for varying ambient light conditions

A slope measurement instrument consistent with certain embodiments has a magnetic base with a compartment attached to the magnetic base, the compartment having an inner face and a clear outer face, with the inner face having indicia of angular graduations thereon, the indicia being viewable through the outer face. The angular graduations are arranged in a semi-circular pattern with a zero grade position at the bottom and increasing angles indicated on either side of the bottom. An indicator needle is pivotally suspended so that gravitational forces acting on the needle cause the needle to point to the zero grade position when the instrument is positioned at a zero degree grade. A fluid disposed within the compartment between the inner face and the outer face to stabilize movement of the needle. The volume of the fluid can be adjusted to adjust the amount of fluid stabilizing effect provided for various conditions. This abstract should not be considered limiting, since other embodiments may incorporate more, fewer or different elements that those described in this abstract.
