Process for producing alpha olefins comprising contacting ethylene, a zirconium based catalyst system comprising, a hydrocarbylmetal compound, a chain transfer agent, and optionally an organic reaction medium. Chain transfer agents which can be utilized include a) hydrogen, b) a compound comprising a hydrogen silicon bond, a compound having a hydrogen sulfur bond, a compound having a hydrogen phosphorus bond, or c) a transition metal compound chain transfer agent.

Ethylene oligomerization processes

Disclosed are processes for purifying feed streams containing hydrogen sulfide and sulfur-containing impurities by removing sulfur-containing impurities, such as elemental sulfur and polysulfanes, using solid catalytic sorbents. Also disclosed are processes for producing hydrogen sulfide.

Processes for removing polysulfanes and elemental sulfur from hydrogen sulfide

A composition comprising: a) at least 76 mol % Cmonoolefins, the Cmonoolefins comprising i) at least 3 mol % 2-butyl-1-hexene, ii) at least 8 mol % 3-propyl-1-heptene, iii) at least 6 mol % 4-ethyl-1-octene, and iv) at least 20 mol % 5-methyl-1-nonene; and b) at least 1 mol % Cmonoolefins. A composition comprising at least 95 mol % Cmonoolefins, the Cmonoolefins comprising i) at least 3 mol % 2-butyl-1-hexene, ii) at least 10 mol % 3-propyl-1-heptene, iii) at least 7 mol % 4-ethyl-1-octene, and iv) at least 24 mol % 5-methyl-1-nonene. Processes to prepare a composition comprising at least 76 mol % Cmonoolefins and at least 1 mol % Cmonoolefins, or a composition comprising at least 95 mol % Cmonoolefins, where the Cmonoolefins comprise i) at least 3 mol % 2-butyl-1-hexene, ii) at least 10 mol % 3-propyl-1-heptene, iii) at least 7 mol % 4-ethyl-1-octene, and iv) at least 24 mol % 5-methyl-1-nonene.

Olefin compositions

This disclosure provides for new catalyst systems and new methods for preparing and using the catalyst systems for generating a trimerization product. In an aspect, the new catalyst systems comprise a chromium carboxylate that is prepared by anhydrous metathesis. In another aspect, the catalyst system comprise a chromium carboxylate that is prepared by anhydrous metathesis and a metal pyrrolide compound. The catalyst systems imparts improved performance and/or reduced catalyst system cost to an olefin trimerization process.

Preparation of an olefin oligomerization catalyst

Methods of preparation of an olefin oligomerization catalyst

A system and method for preparing and using a metal precursor diluent composition are described. The composition includes a metal precursor, and about 18% to about 80% by weight of an olefinic diluent having between 6 and 18 carbon atoms. Such compositions may be used in oligomerization catalyst systems.

Compositions and catalyst systems of metal precursors and olefinic diluents

Disclosed herein are methods for recovering a by-product stream of an ethylene oligomerization process, and systematically processing this stream in order to form a polymer composition that can be pelletized conventionally. This polymer composition can have a bimodal molecular weight distribution, which can be characterized by a ratio of the respective peak molecular weights ranging from 400:1 to 2000:1, and further, a liquid component of the polymer composition is in a range from 1 to 35 weight percent.

A processes is provided to inhibit or limit the decomposition of a halide-containing olefin oligomerization catalyst system during recovery of an oligomerization product. The process includes deactivation of an olefin oligomerization catalyst system present in an olefin oligomerization reactor effluent stream by contact with an alcohol under conditions that minimize potential for deactivated catalyst system decomposition. Such conditions include minimization of the water content of the deactivation agent and concentration of the deactivation agent.

A method of deactivate a catalyst system is described. The method may include contacting a reactor effluent comprising a catalyst system, an oligomerized olefin, and diluent with a kill agent to at least partially deactivate the catalyst system, separating the reactor effluent into one or more first streams comprising oligomerized olefin and diluent, the one or more first streams being substantially devoid of the at least partially deactivated catalyst, and a second stream comprising the deactivated catalyst; and contacting the second stream with a quench agent.
