A device that houses a split of either a ribbon fiber, or alternatively a buffer tube, into individual fibers. The device includes a base that has a split area and a strain relief area, which includes a cavity. For strain relief of a ribbon fiber, two bumpers are placed on opposite sides of the ribbon fiber in the cavity, with the surfaces of the bumpers coated with an adhesive. The walls of the cavity prevent movement of the bumpers and ribbon fiber in two directions. A cavity cover that is removably connected to the base prevents movement in a third direction. A split area cover covers the remainder of the base. The cavity cover and the split area cover can be independently attached and removed from the base as necessary. In this manner, the split area cover can be removed to provide access to the split fibers without removing the cavity cover. Alternatively, a buffer tube is strain relieved by tying down the buffer tube within the cavity by routing a tie wrap through at least one aperture in the bottom of the cavity.

Universal splitter for splitting ribbon fiber and buffer tubes

Devices for routing and organizing fibers in a rack that houses optical equipment, including a strain relief member, a chaffing guard, and a sag reducer. The strain relief member includes a body having rounded upper and lower portions, each being at least equal to the minimum bend radius of the fibers exiting the equipment, and fins on top of the body. Fibers can be interference fit between adjacent fins, thereby relieving pressure on the connector caused by gravity when the fiber hangs down over the strain relief member. The chaffing guard includes a body having a rounded upper portion and a rounded lower portion that each maintain the minimum bend radius of fibers routed over the guard. The rounded upper portion has no sharp edges and therefore reduces chaffing of fibers routed over the top of the chaffing guard. The sag reducer includes a spine and a plurality of extending arms that are spaced apart to allow a plurality of fibers to pass between each adjacent arm, thereby reducing the sagging of horizontally routed fibers.

Devices for protecting and routing optical fibers in a rack

An apparatus for organizing fibers in a rack that houses optical equipment, including a guide that can be removably connected at one of a plurality of different locations to define paths in which fibers can be routed between equipment within the rack. The invention includes a panel having an array of mounting holes therein, and a plurality of guides that can be removably connected to the panel at a plurality of different locations defined by the mounting holes. The panel is located in the rack adjacent to each rack space that houses a piece of equipment and preferably includes a plurality of columns having a plurality of mounting holes in each column. This provides a plurality of vertical and horizontal locations at which a guide can be connected to the panel, thereby allowing the guide to be connected to an appropriate location depending on the size of the equipment in the rack space.

Adjustable guide for organizing optical fibers in an equipment rack

A cabinet for interconnecting and storing optical fibers. The cabinet includes a plurality of left side members and right side members, each of which extends generally horizontally. A plurality of trays are slidably situated in the cabinet between the respective left and right side members. Each tray includes a generally flat base and open sides. The open sides permit optical fibers to be introduced into the tray from any position along the side of the tray. A gap is defined between each side member and the side members immediately above and below it. Each gap extends between the entire length of each side member from the front of the cabinet to the back. The gap provides adequate clearance for fibers introduced into the trays to move along the length of the gap when the tray is slid in and out of the cabinet. The gaps between side members allow for optical fibers to be introduced into the tray by service personnel from the front of the cabinet without having to access the rear of the cabinet to feed optical fibers into the trays through openings in the back of the cabinet.

Apparatus for interconnecting optical fibers

A tray for storing and splicing optical fibers in a cabinet-type enclosure. The tray includes a base. Extending from opposite sides at the front of the tray are fiber entrances, through which optical fibers from a cable positioned outside the tray enter the tray. A fiber splice area in which the splicing of optical fibers can be performed is located in the front portion of the tray. A storage area in which the optical fiber are stored is located in the rear portion of the tray and includes a plurality of retainers that extend from the base of the tray. The retainers are located in positions such that when the optical fiber is stored in the tray, the retainers prevent the fiber from being bent beyond its minimum bend radius. Each retainer comprises a small tab that projects generally vertically from the base of the tray. The tray is slidably mounted within a mount. The mount includes left and right side rails that are slidably inserted into slots on the inner left and right sidewalls of the cabinet. In this manner, the mount is slidably situated within the cabinet such that the exposure of the tray is increased and the entire contents of the tray can be accessed by sliding the mount outwardly from the cabinet and sliding the tray outwardly from the mount.

Apparatus for storing and splicing optical fibers

Wire clamp including a pair of clamping members for clamping a wire therebetween, one of the clamping members is provided with a plurality of teeth for engaging the wire, and the clamping members are provided with cooperative sliding engaging members which, upon the clamping members being forced into sliding engagement, move the plurality of teeth toward and parallel to the wire to cause the teeth to engage the wire in parallel gripping action and clamp the wire between the clamping members.

Support or frame for supporting one or more interconnections between optical fibers, the support is provided with an indentation for receiving buffer tubes of one of the optical fiber cables providing one of the interconnected optical fibers. An assembly or kit including the foregoing support, one or more fusion splice organizers, one or more bulkhead members for receiving and mounting an optical fiber connector for interconnecting a pair of optical fibers, one or more fasteners for fastening the bulkhead member or members to the support, and one or more fasteners for fastening the support to a support member. Alternative support or frame including a clamp for clamping one or more optical fiber splice trays. An enclosure may be included for being fastened around the support or frames to provide mechanical and environmental protection to the support and the optical fiber interconnections.
