A gastroenteric feeding tube is provided which is ideally adapted for endoscopic placement through an endoscope having a working channel and a steerable tip. The feeding tube is provided with a longitudinal length sufficient to allow the endoscope to be removed from about the feeding tube without disturbing the distal placement of the feeding tube within the patient's intestines. After the feeding tube has been properly positioned within the patient and the endoscope has been removed from about the feeding tube, a connector is securely attached to the proximal end of the feeding tube to allow it to be connected to a feeding pump, or the like, to provide nourishment to the patient.

Gastroenteric feeding tube for endoscopic placement and method of use

A syringe needle thimble cap and its method of use is shown such that the thimble cap has a porous plastic, hydrophilic core captured within a cylindrical cap member for use with an arterial blood gas syringe barrel and needle assembly. The syringe needle thimble cap has a generally thimble-shaped cap with a proximal opening. The porous plastic core material is positioned within the thimble cap distally to the proximal opening, and the core material is held in place by an inwardly extending ring to prevent its removal. An open or hollow space is created distally to the porous material which is otherwise bounded by the interior surfaces of the thimble cap.

A connection component suitable for use with an enteral fluid delivery set wherein the connection component consists of a threaded cap having a projecting spike thereon to penetrate and deform a foil diaphragm on the fluid container and further including an air passageway having a flexible member therein to allow filtered air to flow into the fluid container while preventing the flow of fluid from the fluid container through the air passageway.

An improved non-whip angiographic catheter has a preselected number of openings of preselected size, location and orientation along the straight portion of the catheter near the distal tip so as to distribute the force of the high-pressure dye injection jets while maintaining the non-whip characteristic. At least one opening in the catheter long portion is provided facing the open end of the tip portion so that the dye trajectories from the catheter tip opening and the catheter long portion opening are generally coplanar and perpendicular so as to interfere with each other for improved dye dispersion. At least two reaction openings of predetermined size are provided on the opposite side of the catheter long portion at preselected locations, the dye trajectories of these three reaction openings also being generally coplanar with the trajectories of the first opening and the open end of the catheter tip. The special openings have sufficiently small diameters and are specially staggered so as to reduce the possibility of kinking the catheter during placement of the catheter into position for diagnostic angiography.

Intercavity catheter

A catheter and stylet assembly is provided which includes a silicone rubber catheter for insertion into the left ventricle of the heart. A stylet of malleable metal covered by a plastic cover is inserted into the catheter to permit the catheter and stylet to be manually shaped into a desired form before insertion into the patient. The stylet is removable from the catheter after the catheter is in the patient.

Preformable catheter

An improved, four-chamber chest drainage system include (1) a collection chamber for collecting blood and other liquids to be drained from the pleural cavity of a patient, (2) an underwater seal chamber for preventing contamination of the patient's pleural cavity by atmospheric air, (3) a manometer chamber for accurately indicating the negative pressure in the patient's pleural cavity, and (4) a suction control chamber for regulating the amount of negative pressure (or suction) applied to the patient's pleural cavity. The suction control chamber has a flexible diaphragm adapted to flex in response to increased negativity above a predetermined level to block the opening to the suction source until the negativity returns to the predetermined level. A combination vent valve-and-filter assembly permits ready venting of the collection chamber to filtered atmospheric air.

Chest drainage unit

A stopper for a blood collection tube adapted to receive whole blood for centrifugal separation into its relatively light and heavy phases. The stopper is provided with a coating which prevents red blood cells from adhering to it so as to avoid red cell contamination of the lighter phase after phase separation. The stopper is coated with a cationic binding agent, such as tridodecylmethylammonium chloride, and then with an anionic anticoagulant such as dextran sulfate. A lubricant, such as silicone oil, is applied to the coated stopper to facilitate insertion of the stopper into the tube.

A catheter introducer device using a silicone rubber catheter with a stylet therein permitting introduction by manual threading of catheters which would otherwise be too flexible for individual insertion. The stylet is held at its proximal end by a hub which, with a seating ferrule, abuts a proximal end of the catheter. The hub may be pushed to wedge the catheter in an introducer cannula and is then withdrawn carrying the stylet with it, leaving the catheter in place and ready for use.

A blood collection device used in taking a small sample from a patient for test purposes is provided with a capillary tube and vented tube holder disposed in the upper end of a blood collection container. Integral radial extensions allow the container to be centrifuged in a centrifuge normally used for containers of larger diameter. An integral flexible strap connects a stopper to one of the radial extensions so that the stopper remains with the container.
