A protective frame positioned between the mounting of an automatic or manually swing door and the exterior, the frame comprising first and second upright members, a pair of absorbable members positioned between and mounted to the first and second upright members to be contacted by errant grocery carts, and deflecting the carts away from the door; and a spring-loaded mechanism for allowing one of the upright members to be rotated away from the door in the event the door is opened to the outside during an emergency, so that the door is able to travel a complete 90-degree path, without being impeded by the protective metal frame, and complying with fire and safety codes. When the door is closed, the absorbable members rotate back to the position to protect the door against carts.

Swing door pivot protector

A powered system which would include a motor, a shaft rotated by the electrical motor, and a work piece on the end of the shaft which would impart rotation or movement to a part. There is then provided a bushing, which would rotate in unison with the rotating shaft, and an armature plate engaged around the rotating bushing which would impart rotation to the armature plate in normal working conditions. Secured adjacent the rotating bushing and armature plate, there would be further included a bearing-mounted and field magnet assembly, known in the art, so that when the bearing mounted assembly is electrically engaged, the magnet portion of the magnet assembly would be energized, thus moving the rotating armature plate to engage against the stationary magnet face, which would immediately stop rotation of the armature plate. Because the bushing is engaged in the armature plate, the bushing would likewise be halted in its rotation as would the shaft of the motor. In this fashion, whatever piece is being rotated by the shaft of the motor would immediately cease rotation and the unit would be, in effect, fully stopped.

Locking assembly for automatic doors

An automatic door opener adaptable to manual doors which includes a door hinged along at least one edge to a door frame, and manually movable between open and closed positions; an automatic door opener mechanism secured to the door, which further includes a motor; a first gear driven by the motor; at least an output gear for driving an output shaft secured to the door; a pair of gear dog portions on a face of the output gear defining free travel spaces therebetween; a pair of pins extending from the output shaft within the travel spaces, so that when the output gear is rotated by the motor, the gear dog portions engage the pins on the output shaft and rotate the door from a first closed position to a second opened position; a timer for allowing the door to remain in the opened position a pre-determined amount of time before returning to the closed position; and when the door is moved manually to the opened position and allowed to close, the pin members are not engaged by the gear dogs, and travel within the free travel spaces without imparting movement to any components of the automatic door mechanism.

Automatic door opener adaptable for manual doors

A positive latch system for sliding doors having a break away feature, which includes a door which is capable of sliding along a track between open and closed positions; means for allowing the sliding door to breakaway from its linear track, and swing fully open for greater access to the opening; latching mechanism positioned on the door, for allowing the door to positively latch closed either from the sliding configuration are the breakaway configuration, the mechanism including a latch bolt depressible upon engaging the latch plate, from at least two directions, each direction the latch bolt depressing for engaging into the latch plate port, and means on the latch plate for allowing the latch bolt to depress when engaging from either of the two directions.

Double-acting positive latch system for sliding doors

A breakaway bi-folding door assembly, which would include at least a pair of bi-folding doors of the type wherein a first end of one door panel is hinged to a door frame, and a second end of a second door panel travels within a slot in the frame to allow the door panel to fold and unfold between open and closed positions for defining an open or closed doorway through a passage. Further there is provided a pivoting frame member positioned above the second door panel, and hinged to the second door at a first end and attached to the second door at a second end, so that at any point along its travel, the attaching means could be overcome by force and the second end of the second door panel can swing freely of the pivoting frame member. Upon the pivoting frame member sliding within the slot, the second door would return to its attached position automatically to form the bi-folding door configuration.

Breakaway bi-folding door assembly

A breakaway bi-folding door assembly, which would include a pair of bi-folding doors of the type having a first end hinged to an upper frame, and a second end travelling within a slot in the frame to allow the doors to fold and unfold between open and closed positions for defining an open or closed doorway through a passage. Furthermore, the assembly would include a movable plate member for each of the bi-folding doors, positioned on the frame, and hinged along one end for moving outward from the frame.
