Apparatus for applying pull tabs to container panels wherein tabs are singly fed from a stack onto a heated first anvil, each tab is then clamped to its respective anvil and an end portion thereof bent at right angles to the remainder of the tab. The bent tab is then transferred by way of the anvil into opposed relation to a bonding anvil which lifts a pre-heated end unit into contact with a pre-heated tab and applied pressure effects bonding of the tab to the end unit.

A method and apparatus for positioning an article to a predetermined position. The article is provided with a temporary orientation tab struck from the article; the tab eventually being cut off in further manufacture of the article. A reciprocating conveyor deposits the article onto a rotating slip-clutch driven mandrel to which the article is pressed by an overhead spring-biased holder. The mandrel rotates with the article until the tab on the article engages a stop on the apparatus whereupon the clutch slips and means on the conveyor clamp the article in oriented position, the conveyor lifting the article off the mandrel and advancing it to the next manufacturing station.

This invention relates to a conveyor for transporting sheets of material through an ultraviolet exposing chamber for curing and setting of a coat. Up to this time, the drying of solvent ink has involved considerable pollution problems, a fair consumption of natural gas and large and costly ovens with high temperature incineration systems. These problems have generally been brought about by long ovens wherein the metal sheet has been passed through once or twice in order to accomplish curing or drying.
