A dental implant anchor for attaching an abutment with at least one replacement tooth to the jaw bone of a mammal has a lower portion with an outer tapered surface which has a thread and is textured to improve bone integration to the anchor. The anchor also has an upper portion with a polished collar, the upper portion having an upper surface adapted to be engaged by the abutment. The anchor has an abutment receiving bore extending into the anchor and opening at the upper surface of the upper portion for receiving an abutment, and a threaded bore portion extending into the anchor, below the abutment receiving bore for receiving a screw.

Universal implant

A universal dental implant arrangement includes both internal attachment and external attachment possibilities. This is achieved by utilizing an anchor having an internal void or abutment receiving bore, adapted for internal attachment-type abutments, along with a platform that can be used for various purposes. The universality of the implant is in providing the alternative of leaving the platform in place, causing the implant to function as an external attachment implant, or removing the platform and thereby converting the implant into an internal attachment implant. The platform can support an external attachment abutment or be remove so that the implant can accommodate an internal attachment abutment.

A method and device for the high speed fluid (preferably water) jet removal of dental caries. The water jet is of a controlled upper and lower speed and pressure with a low speed and pressure being of at least 5 to 10 kpsi, sufficient to pierce and flush decayed tissue of a caries with a small beam fluid jet diameter. A pulsed or continuous fluid jet is used to remove and completely flush caries material from a tooth in a time period of under a second with a maximum stagnation pressure of about 30 kpsi, at which point healthy dentin is affected. A coherent or pseudo-coherent water jet operating at high stagnation pressure (range 10,000 to 20,000-psi and no more than 30-kpsi), in a brief burst (.apprxeq.1 second) and small beam diameter (30 to 100-.mu.m) will cleanly remove caries without damage to the tooth structure in particular the sound dentin at the boundary of the caries. No anaesthetic is accordingly required in the absence of a possible exposed nerve.

Removal of dental caries with high speed water jet

An ophthalmic implant for draining aqueous humor from the anterior chamber of the eye comprises a transcleral conduit having an inlet opening at one end thereof for communicating with the anterior chamber of an eye, and an outlet opening at an opposite end of the conduit for draining fluid from the anterior chamber. An elongated arch shaped subconjunctival channel is connected to the conduit and has an inlet opening into the channel for communicating with the outlet opening of the conduit, the channel having an outlet openings for discharging fluid from the conduit, subconjunctivally over the sclera of the eye. A one-way flow resisting valve is provided in the conduit for allowing a flow of fluid to pass under resistance and in only one direction from the inlet to the outlet of the conduit, whereby pressure in the anterior chamber is relieved while avoiding excessive outflow of fluid from the anterior chamber.

Implant with subconjunctival arch

The present invention relates in general to ophthalmic implants, and in particular to a new and useful transcleral apparatus for the draining of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber of the eye. The implant comprises a transcleral conduit having an inlet opening at one end thereof for communicating with the anterior chamber of an eye, and an outlet opening at an opposite end of the conduit for draining fluid from the anterior chamber. An elongated subconjunctival channel is connected to the conduit and has an inlet opening at one end of the channel for communicating with the outlet opening of the conduit, the channel having an outlet opening at an opposite end thereof for discharging fluid from the conduit, subconjunctivally over the sclera of the eye. Ocular implant for controlling glaucoma

An apparatus and method for the supra and subgingival cleaning of teeth comprises and handle with a driving mechanism for reciprocally rotating a tapered cleaning tip about its longitudinal axis. A tuft or other scrubbing mechanism is provided on the outer circumference of the tip. The tip includes circumferentially disposed flutes which can be used to receive and dispense medication to the subgingival area. The tip is introduced into the gap between the gum and the tooth for scrubbing the outer surfaces of the tooth near and under the gum line. This effectively disrupts any bacteria plaque in these areas to clean the tooth.
