Hand grip for fastener driving tool

A magazine assembly for a fastener driving tool has an elongated fastener carrier defining a fastener feed path. The carrier is pivotally mounted about an axis parallel to the fastener feed path for movement between an operative, refill and an unjam position. In the operative position, the elongated carrier is latched by a latch assembly disposed in the forward portion of the tool. A pusher advances the fasteners forward to a nosepiece assembly. In one embodiment, retraction of the pusher releases the latch allowing the elongated carrier to pivot about an axis parallel to the fastener feed path under the influence of a spring to the refill position. In an alternate embodiment, the latch assembly is provided at the rear of the tool and is not interlocked with the pusher. A nosepiece assembly, secured to the forward end of the tool, defines a fastener drive track for guiding fasteners driven into a workpiece. The nosepiece assembly includes a front nosepiece and a rear nosepiece pivotably connected together to allow freeing of jammed fasteners. The front and rear nosepieces are provided with interlocking portions to prevent separation of the drive track during operation.

A safety system for automatically preventing over pressure in the interior of a pneumatically operated tool supplied from a source of compressed air includes a safety relief valve detachably connected between the tool and the compressed air source. The safety valve includes a hollow housing having a relief port therein and a resettable valve member is mounted in the housing and movable to open and close the relief port in response to the level of air pressure supplied from the source of compressed air. The housing includes an access opening opposite the relief port and a removable stop member is provided to normally close the access opening and limit the movement of the valve member in a direction inwardly of the housing. The access opening is dimensioned to permit easy insertion and removal of the valve member into and out of the housing. A biasing spring is mounted on the valve member for maintaining an inner end of the member in engagement with the stop until an over pressure is encountered and when this occurs, the excessive air pressure becomes effective to move the valve member outwardly to open the relief port. Once the over pressure no longer obtains, the biasing spring is again effective to reseat the valve and close the relief port so that tool operation may be continued.

A fastener driving tool for driving fasteners into a workpiece includes a trigger assembly movable from an inoperative position to an operative position and a workpiece responsive assembly also movable from an inoperative position to an operative position as the tool is moved adjacent the workpiece. The tool further includes a safety control assembly coupling the trigger and workpiece responsive assemblies to control operation of the tool. The safety control assembly includes a blocking member that blocks the movement of the workpiece responsive assembly if the trigger assembly is actuated prior to placement of the tool on a workpiece.

A fastener driving tool includes a driver and a mechanism for powering the driver through a driving stroke including a trigger pivotally mounted on the tool and adapted for actuation by the finger of an operator. A locking mechanism is included on the tool that is movable from a first position preventing the pivoting of the trigger to a second position wherein the trigger may be pivoted and released a predetermined distance to allow repeated firing of the tool.

Locking mechanism for a trigger of a fastener driving tool

A tool for driving fasteners includes a driver and a device for actuating the driver through a driving stroke. The tool is operated by a trigger assembly that includes a manually actuated trigger pivotally mounted on the tool and a lever pivotally mounted at a first end to the trigger. Also included on the tool is a safety assembly that before the tool can be fired must be actuated prior to actuation of the trigger. The safety mechanism includes a push rod slideably mounted within the tool with a first end engaging a safety yoke and a second end adjacent the lever of the trigger assembly. The safety yoke is slideably mounted on the nose of the tool and is adapted to extend below the nose of the tool to engage the workpiece upon placement of the tool onto the workpiece. As the tool is placed against a workpiece prior to actuation of the trigger, the yoke and, thus, the push rod are moved upwardly until the second end of the push rod engages the lever placing the trigger assembly in an operative mode. As the trigger is thereafter actuated, the lever is pivoted to actuate the tool and drive a fastener. The safety assembly includes an engagement or locking element on the second end of the rod that locks the second end of the lever in an inoperative position if the trigger is actuated prior to the placement of the tool onto the workpiece.

Safety assembly for a tool for driving fasteners

An electric fastener driving tool includes a body of a clam-shell construction formed of two body parts that define a head and handle portions. An open bottom magazine assembly is attached to the tool for supplying fasteners to be driven. The tool also includes a removable nose piece defining a portion of a drive track for a driving blade mounted in the tool. The nosepiece includes different workpiece engaging surfaces on opposite ends such that the tool may be used to drive fasteners into different types of workpieces. The tool further includes a double cone spring for returning the driver to its at rest position.
