A method for making coaxial cable connector components for assembly into either first or second different connector configurations may include forming center contacts for the first connector configuration and forming common connector components for either the first or second connector configuration. The common connector components may include common connector housings; common back nuts, each for clamping a coaxial cable outer conductor in cooperation with a respective common connector housing; and common forward dielectric bodies, each having a passageway therethrough. The common forward dielectric body is for supporting a respective center contact for the first connector configuration, and for alternatively supporting a respective forward portion of a coaxial cable inner conductor for the second configuration. The common forward dielectric bodies may provide impedance matching with a coaxial cable for both the first and second connector configurations.

Method for making coaxial cable connector components for multiple configurations and related devices

A coaxial cable connector may include an insulator member including a forward portion, and a rearward portion extending rearwardly from the forward portion. The rearward portion may include a tubular outer conductor support portion for supporting an interior surface of the outer conductor of the end of the coaxial cable. The tubular outer conductor support portion may include a sidewall having a plurality of spaced apart hollow cavities extending therein. These cavities may advantageously provide the impedance matching and may be readily formed during manufacturing of the insulator member, such as by molding, for example. The connector may further include a housing having a forward and rearward ends and a medial portion therebetween, and a back nut threadingly engaging the rearward end of the connector housing. The insulator member may be positioned within the medial portion of the connector housing. A contact may be carried within the bore of the insulator member for connecting to the inner conductor of the end of the coaxial cable.

Coaxial connector with insulator member including elongate hollow cavities and associated methods

The coaxial cable connector includes a connector housing defining a radially outer ramp portion. The coaxial cable connector may also include an insulator member in the connector housing. The insulator member defines a radially inner ramp portion aligned with the radially outer ramp portion. The coaxial cable connector may include a back nut defining an opposing ramp opposite the outer ramp portion so that the radially inner and outer ramp portions may flare an end of the outer conductor as the coaxial cable is advanced into the connector housing. At least the radial outer ramp portion may cooperate with the opposing ramp of the back nut to clamp the flared end of the outer conductor therebetween.

Coaxial connector including clamping ramps and associated method

A jumper coaxial cable assembly includes a jumper coaxial cable and at least one solder-type connector secured thereto. The cable may include an outer conductor, which, in turn, includes aluminum with a tin layer thereon. The tin layer permits an aluminum outer conductor to be used, yet facilitates soldering of the solder-type connector onto the outer conductor. The tin layer may be a tin alloy, such as a tin/lead alloy, for example. The outer conductor may have a continuous, non-braided, tubular shape, and the tin layer may extend continuously along an entire length of the outer conductor. The tin layer may be readily formed by tin plating during manufacturing of the jumper coaxial cable. The jumper coaxial cable assembly may be joined to a main coaxial cable and/or to electronic equipment.

A coaxial cable connector includes a connector housing, a back nut threadingly engaging a rearward end of the connector housing, a ferrule gripping and advancing an end of the coaxial cable into the connector housing as the back nut is tightened, and an insulator member positioned within a medial portion of the connector housing. The insulator member may have a bore extending therethrough and include a forward disk portion, a rearward disk portion, a ring portion connecting the forward and disk portions together, and a tubular outer conductor support portion extending rearwardly from the rearward disk portion for supporting an interior surface of the outer conductor of the end of the coaxial cable. The insulator member may an integrally formed monolithic member and the ring portion may have a reduced strength portion therein.

Coaxial cable jumper assembly including plated outer conductor and associated methods

A connector is for joining together a first coaxial cable having a first diameter and a second coaxial cable having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter. The connector includes a hollow connector body for joining first and second back-nut assemblies together. The first back-nut assembly preferably comprises a threaded distal end, and outer conductor clamping portions for coupling to the outer conductor of the first coaxial cable. The second back-nut assembly is similarly connected to the second coaxial cable. The hollow connector body preferably includes opposing first and second threaded ends to be threadingly engaged in the respective distal threaded ends of the first and second back-nut assemblies, and an intermediate portion having a frusto-conical shape with a larger diameter portion adjacent the first end and a smaller diameter portion adjacent the second end. A center contact is preferably positioned within an opening of a dielectric spacer carried by the hollow connector body.
