A pole climbing and safety device has a flexible strap which in use is passed around the pole on the opposite side thereof to a climber, and a pair of handles each adjacent a respective opposite end of the strap and grippable by the climber's hands, each handle being pivotally connected to the respective opposite end of the strap for pivotal movement relative thereto about an upright axis. The device also has a pair of harness attachment arms each adjacent an opposite end of the strap and to which left and right harness members of a harness worn by the climber are respectively attached when in use, each harness attachment arm being pivotally connected to the adjacent end of the strap for pivotal movement relative to the strap and to the adjacent handle about the same upright pivotal axis. Each harness attachment arm is located laterally inwardly of the adjacent handle when the device is in use on a pole, and carries a pole engaging member between the upright axis and the respective harness attachment which engages the pole when in use to prevent the device from sliding down the pole.

Pole climbing and safety device

A sink stopper comprises a perforated strainer basket, a sealing member, an upwardly extending handle, and a downwardly depending locating stem. The locating stem comprises a base portion and two substantially parallel spaced-apart co-operating legs that are substantially rigid yet resiliently deformable towards each other. Each peripheral surface comprises an outwardly and upwardly sloped guide surface disposed at the bottom end portion thereof, an outwardly and downwardly sloped grate-contacting surface disposed at the top end portion thereof, and a grate-receiving notch disposed between the guide surface and the grate-contacting surface. The grate-receiving notch includes an upwardly facing catch surface shaped and dimensioned to catch on the grate in interfering relation therewith. The maximum width of the locating stem at the bottom end of the sloped grate-contacting surface is greater than the diameter of the central guiding aperture in the grate. The sink stopper is movable between a seated flow precluding position whereat the locating stem engages the grate at the outwardly and downwardly sloped grate-contacting surface so as to thereby bias the sink stopper downwardly, and a raised straining position whereat the locating stem engages the grate at the grate-receiving notch, so as to thereby support the sink stopper and so as to resist upward movement therefrom of the sink stopper.

Sink stopper

A stopper drain guide stem is provided for centering and positioning a stopper in a drain guide hole. The unitary guide stem has a spindle portion extending axially downwardly therefrom for attachment to a drain stopper. The downwardly extending flexible stem portion of the guide element has a radiused nose portion for supporting the drain stopper in its raised, draining position, and for centering the stem and guiding it into a central aperture of the drain body assembly. The intermediate length of the stem portion is bifurcated, having a pair of spaced apart, substantially parallel flexible leg portions with a flexible spacer member extending therebetween intermediate their length, to promote flexibility of the stem, so as to enable its use in a wider range of sizes of guide hole, and to enhance lateral stabilizing frictional engagement of the stem with the inner peripheral surface of the drain guide hole. The improved guide element can be used with a simple stopper having a stopper washer, or with a sink stopper including a perforated strainer basket. The enhanced flexbility of the legs enabling use in combination with a wider range of sizes of sink guide holes promotes the value and utility of the invention to the aftermarket.

Sink strainer with bridged stem

A clamp assembly is provided for self-rimming sinks or basins which mount through an opening in a supporting counter structure, where the sink or basin has a plurality of brackets secured at least intermittently around its periphery at positions that are intermediate the height of the bowl. A clamp structure has a generally L-shaped configuration, with a first horizontal arm and a second vertical leg, and a bolt threadably received in and passed through the horizontal arm. Means are provided at the upper end of the bolt for engaging the under surface of the counter. The lower portion of the leg is offset in a direction away from the arm so as to contact the outer surface of the bowl of the basin or sink at a position below the bracket, whereby the bolt is kept in a substantially vertical orientation, and a force couple may be created between the bowl of the basin or sink and the lower end of the leg of the clamp. The clamp structure is conveniently stamped and formed from sheet steel or other suitable material, but may be made of extruded aluminum or injection-moulded plastic.
