Combination irradiation device and hybridizer

An arc lamp having a sealed lamp tube with electrodes to either side of a septum. The septum extends through the length of the arc chamber. An emissions chamber extends from the end of the arc chamber without the septum. A window at the end of the emissions chamber is displaced from the end of the septum and from the arc chamber itself by a sufficient distance so that magnesium diffusing from the electrodes does not darken the surface. The magnesium electrodes are slugs encased within high temperature cells open at one end.

Magnesium vapor discharge lamp

A wavelength shifting filter having two sheets of material adjacent and parallel with a spacer therebetween about the periphery of the sheets. The sheets are held in a frame. A phosphor coating is located on the inner side of one of the sheets. A transilluminator is associated with the filter and provides radiation in the UV wavelength. One sheet of the filter transmits the UV wavelength. The other sheet transmits at least a portion of the wavelength that the phosphor coating generates when subjected to the UV radiation of the transilluminator. The visual effect of white light is enhanced by the use of white glass.

Wavelength shifting filter

A transilluminator having two sets of tubes selectively providing light in the ultraviolet and visible ranges. The sets of tubes are arranged in two rows on opposite sides of a reflector in a housing having windows with lenses in opposite sides. The two sets of tubes have separate circuits sharing a common ON/OFF switch and a mercury switch mounted to the housing. With the device on, the orientation of the housing determines which of the two sets of tubes is on and which is off. Two sets of mounts to stably retain the housing on a planar surface are arranged on the opposite sides so that the housing may be positioned and used in two orientations. In either orientation, the upwardly facing lamps are energized while the downwardly facing lamps are turned off.

Disposable self-shielding hypodermic syringe

There are disclosed herein medical syringe and catheter devices which preferably can be disposable and non-reusable and which have features to minimize users from accidentally stabbing themselves before or after use. They comprise relatively slidable members for covering and uncovering a needle. A butterfly wing IV catheter is disclosed including a body having laterally extending tabs to help hold the catheter in place, along with a slide member configured to fit and slide within an opening in the body member and which member includes a needle and a hollow fitting for receiving flexible tubing. The slider member includes a boss adapted to fit within pockets of the body member to define respective extended and retracted positions of the needle.

There is disclosed herein a hypodermic syringe which is disposable and intended to be non-reusable. The syringe includes a body and a protector case which slidably contains the body to uncover the needle of the syringe for use and to cover the same after use. The case and body incorporate a detent arrangement for holding the body within the protector case in respective first and second positions. The protector case can include a surface providing a data recording area.

A compact automatic apparatus for rapidly curing photosensitive coatings on eyeglass lenses. A precision adjustable automatic programmer controls process cycling, ultraviolet intensity and radiation time. A control panel is used to switch the apparatus on or off and to manually select cycle parameters. The apparatus electronically monitors radiation intensity and uses a flashing light to warn the operator of low ultraviolet intensity. Apparatus components are cooled by a filtered force air convection system that prevents flow of unfiltered air into the apparatus. An automatically programmed linear motion lens transport carriage passes through an automatic outer door which allows inward and outward passage of the lens while protecting the operator from ultraviolet radiation. The outer door shields the machine interior from dirt and dust. After the outer door closes behind the entering lens, the lens transport carriage speed changes to a preselected irradiation cycle speed and an automatic shutter opens to allow the ultraviolet radiation to reach the lens. Ultraviolet radiation is supplied by a cylindrical ultraviolet lamp in the radiation chamber. At the proper time, the shutter closes and the lens transport carriage reverses direction, lens transport carriage speed changes to transport speed, and the lens transport carriage moves the lens out to the loading/unloading station through the outer door which opens and closes automatically.

High intensity lamp housing

A high intensity lamp has a housing formed by first and second housing halves fitted together, a rear cover and a front cover. The first and second housing halves have a handle integrally formed therewith so that the lamp is portable. The housing encases a socket, the high intensity lamp source, a lamp shield and a filter, as well as part of a power cord. The front cover is releasably attached to the first and second housing halves. The filter is releasably attached to the housing halves by means of a retainer, disposed in the housing halves, having inwardly inclined tongs with respect to the housing, which hold therebetween a projection from the filter. The rear cover and each housing half has several elongated ventilation slots. The front cover has feet on which the lamp can rest. The feet are reinforced by ribs which serve, together with tabs, to hold a splash shield in place in the cover.

Heat dissipating high intensity lamp housing

A push button switch assembly comprising a plurality of push button switch actuators includes a flexible, unstretchable electrically non-conductive belt for permitting only one of the push button switch actuators at a time to be in its activated position while the remaining switch actuators are all in their deactivated position. The switch assembly cover includes a molded detent spring for maintaining a switch actuator with a shaft having suitably axially spaced detents in its activated position when one of the detents engages the spring. The switch actuator comprises movable contacts aligned to engage respective stationary contacts disposed in the base of the switch assembly when the switch actuator is in its activated position. The belt is strung over tensioning risers disposed in a predetermined path on the base of the switch assembly at each side of a switch actuator. The switch actuator shaft further includes a groove for confining the belt therein.

Interlocked push button switch assembly

The reciprocable plunger of a fluid dispenser is immobilized by a frangible strap extending about the plunger and engaging a locking ledge on the container cap. Severance of the strap unlocks the plunger and permits plunger reciprocation.

Dispenser having plunger locking means

A liquid dispenser has relatively rotatable closure, sleeve and plunger members, the latter two being locked against reciprocation of the plunger member by a misalignment between ribs and grooves therebetween. One of the grooves has a pair of upstanding pegs on opposite sides so as to not only avoid inadvertent alignment when the ribs and grooves are in a misaligned position, but to also permit the plunger and sleeve members to rotate together as the rib abuts against one or the other of the pegs when in a misaligned position. A spacer element surrounding the plunger rod maintains the inlet valve in a closed position despite a slight separation between the plunger and sleeve members when rotated to the misaligned position. Also, the closure member is adapted to be removed only with difficulty from the container on which it is affixed.
