The calibration of an ion mobility spectrometer is corrected for the actual operating pressure and temperature conditions within the system. An absolute pressure transducer is used to monitor absolute atmospheric pressure. This information is used in conjunction with the measured calibrant drift time to pre-determine expected drift times of target ions, compensating for any pressure and/or temperature differences from the reference conditions under which the original calibration has been carried out. This improved calibration allows the unit to be operated with a significantly lower waiting period after start-up, and also under significantly different atmospheric pressure conditions. It also improves the precision of operation of the system.

Pressure based calibration correction of an ion mobility spectrometer

The gas pressure in an ion mobility spectrometer is controlled to maintain near-constant pressure in the drift region by adjusting gas flows in response to a pressure transducer output. The pressure in the system may be referenced to ambient pressure. The increase in pressure stability achieved permits the expected drift times of target analytes to be determined much more accurately than otherwise, and thereby allows more specific detection parameters to be used. This in turn results in a significantly improved false alarm rate for the device.

Pressure stabilized ion mobility spectrometer

An improved releasable handle assembly for power driven lawn and garden devices is disclosed. The improved handle assembly includes a 'handle to pivot pin' connection for releasably attaching the handle assembly to pivot pins. Coactive with the 'handle to pivot pin' connection is an improved 'handle to deck' latching system. The deck includes a pair of offset tower assemblies defining inclined forward and rearward handle positions. A latching mechanism is mounted to said handle assembly for telescopic movement thereon through a limited range of motion for releasably engaging said handle tower assemblies. An operator must disengage the latch mechanism from the handle tower to permit selective pivotal movement of the handle assembly to the opposite inclined position.
