Several embodiments of a microporous battery separator for lithium rechargeable batteries and/or related methods of making and/or using such separators are disclosed. A dry process battery separator or membrane separator exhibits a thickness that is less than about 14 &#x3bc;m and has increased strength performance as defined by reduced splittiness. The mode of splitting failure has been investigated, and the improvement in splittiness quantified by a test method known as the Composite Splittiness Index (CSI).

An indirect contact lens is mechanically coupled to a surgical microscope during ophthalmic surgery, such as vitreoretinal surgery. The indirect contact lens rests on a cornea of an eye of a patient during the surgery but is supported by a surgical microscope attachment having multiple degrees of freedom to accommodate small movements of the eye while remaining aligned to an optical axis of the surgical microscope.

A system for installing a band around a rigid subsea structure includes a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) having a main body. A set of jaws extendable beyond an outer perimeter of the main body are coupled to the ROV. The fins can have at least one pivoting vane region connected to the support beams with a flexible hinge member. The support beams can be fixedly or rotationally attached at one end to a foot pocket. Methods are provided for limiting the rotation of at least one of the pivoting vanes using flexible web members between vanes and the support beams. Methods for increasing lift and decreasing turbulence and drag on hydrofoils or vanes of the swim fins are also included.

A book stand folds flat, forming a single panel for storage or use as a clipboard, sketchpad, or straight edge. The book stand may also unfold into operational configuration to include an inclined supporting surface and a shelf, on which a book can rest at an inclined angle. The preferred legs or other support members extend from the rear side of the book stand near the left and right side edges of the book stand and diverge from each other to form a broad and stable base. The book stand may be set up in operational position with a minimum number of steps, by flipping up the shelf and pivoting the two legs on the backside of the book stand to swing underneath the shelf. In its folded, collapsed configuration, the preferred book stand may be a flat, substantially solid panel approximately 8.5&#x2033;&#xd7;11.&#x2033; The device can also be equipped with a magnification device, light, clip, page protector, or other visual aid devices.

A grilling surface, and a grease diverter, within a standard gas grill having a cover, base, and a gas burner. The grilling surface is formed of a series of integrally structured inverted and truncated pyramids, or cones, connected together, and having an aperture provided through each pyramid or cone, at its downward edge, to allow for drainage of grease therethrough, but to generally retard the direct access of flame to the food being cooked. A grease diverter, may be positioned below the grilling surface comprising a compound sloping plate, having its apex at the midpoint, and sloping downwardly to its front and back edge to divert grease away from the open flame.
