In a technique for inducing local electric field controlled magnetization, despite the absence of magnetic components, there is provided a novel heterostructure, a semiconductor device thereof, or an array of semiconductor devices. The heterostructure includes a semiconductor substrate carrying a plurality of layers forming at least one heterojunction and hosting a two-dimensional electron gas layer when one of the layer of the plurality of layers is bounded to an interacting layer being a chiral or a biological macromolecule assembly.

Device for electric field induced local magnetization

An electrode is presented for use in an oxidation process. The electrode comprises a substrate having an electrically conductive surface carrying a chiral system. The chiral system is configured for controlling spin of electrons transferred between the substrate and electrolyte during the oxidation process.

In accordance with one exemplary embodiment of the present technique, there is disclosed a spins selective device, including a first layer comprising a ferromagnetic material. The invention provides a semiconductor device for the detection of an active site-containing protein or a ligand thereof in a solution, said device comprising at least one insulating or semi-insulating layer; at least one conducting semiconductor layer, two conducting pads on top of the upper layer making electrical contact with said at least one conducting semiconductor layer, such that electrical current can flow between them at a finite distance from the surface of the device; a protective molecular layer fabricated on top of said upper layer and protecting said layer from corrosion; and said ligand or active site-containing protein linked to said protective molecular layer. Exposure of said ligand or active site-containing protein to a solution containing said active site-containing protein or ligand, respectively, causes a current change through the device when a constant electric potential is applied between the two conducting pads. The semiconductor device can be seen as a molecularly controlled semiconductor resistor (MOCSER) protein sensor based on doped and undoped GaAs stack structure. The GaAs is protected against etching in aqueous environments by the protective molecular layer.

The device comprises one or more basic blocks, each comprising a predetermined number of charged particle inputs, at least one interaction zone defining a function space, and at least one charged particle output at a certain distance from the interaction zone. The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for patterning a substrate. The method comprises providing at least one magnetic pattern generator configured and operable to modulate the magnetic field to induce varying magnetic properties to a magnetic field according to a desired pattern; applying the modulated magnetic field in the vicinity of the substrate creating a certain pattern of regions of interaction to be obtained on top of the substrate; and; interacting the substrate with magnetic particles, while under the application of the modulated magnetic field, the magnetic particles being attracted to selected regions of interaction defined by the certain pattern while being substantially not attracted to regions outside the regions of interaction, thus creating on top of the substrate the certain pattern of regions interacted with the magnetic particles. The desired pattern corresponds to a certain pattern for a predetermined magnetic field profile and at a predetermined distance from the magnetic pattern generator, where the sample is to be located.

Magnetic patterning method and system

The present invention provides a device for the detection of a peroxide-based explosive, in particular, triacetone triperoxide (TATP), which is based on a molecular controlled semiconductor resistor (MOCSER) and composed of at least one insulating or semi-insulating layer, at least one conducting semiconductor layer, two conducting pads and a layer of multifunctional organic molecules capable of adsorbing molecules of the peroxide-based explosive. The invention further provides an array of semiconductor devices for the selective detection of a peroxide-based explosive, as well as a method for the selective detection of vapors of a peroxide-based explosive in a gaseous mixture using this array.

A method for fabrication of substrate having a nano-scale surface roughness is presented. The method comprises: patterning a surface of a substrate to create an array of spaced-apart regions of a light sensitive material; applying a controllable etching to the patterned surface, said controllable etching being of a predetermined duration selected so as to form a pattern with nano-scale features; and removing the light sensitive material, thereby creating a structure with the nano-scale surface roughness. Silanizing such nano-scale roughness surface with hydrophobic molecules results in the creation of super-hydrophobic properties characterized by both a large contact angle and a large tilting angle. Also, deposition of a photo-active material on the nano-scale roughness surface results in a photocathode with enhanced photoemission yield. This method also provides for fabrication of a photocathode insensitive to polarization of incident light.

Method for fabricating nano-scale patterned surfaces

An electronic memory device includes at least one basic unit, which is configured as a memory cell for storing at least one bit of information. The basic unit includes a vacuum cavity for free charge carriers propagation therethrough, a region of charge carriers emission or entry into the vacuum cavity, an anode electrode which are kept under controllable voltage conditions, and at least one floating gate electrode accommodated in a path of the free charge carriers propagating through the vacuum cavity between the emission or entry region and the anode. An analog real-time signal processing device and method are presented. The device is configured to perform electrical signal processing. The device comprises an electronic circuit including at least one basic unit of electrodes, the basic unit being configured to be sensitive to an external field, such as input photon flux, indicative of a first input signal to cause emission of charged particles and configured to define at least one electrical input for a second input signal and one electrical output, thereby providing the electrical output in the form of an approximation of a product of the first and second input signals.
