The present disclosure relates to charging and recharging systems for compact hearing aids, components thereof, and support devices therefor. The charging and recharging systems generally include a light emitting device, such as an aural insert having a light emitting diode, and a photovoltaic cell disposed on an implanted hearing aid. In operation, the light emitting device is positioned in or near the entrance of the ear canal and transmits light energy across the ear canal towards the implanted hearing aid. The photovoltaic cell receives the light energy and converts the light energy into stored electricity to power the hearing aid.

Hearing aid implant recharging system

The present disclosure relates to compact hearing aids, components thereof, and support systems therefor, as well as methods of insertion and removal thereof. The compact hearing aids generally include a sensor, such as a microphone, an actuation mass, an energy source for providing power to the compact hearing aid, a processor, and an actuator enclosed in a housing that is designed to be inserted through the tympanic membrane during a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure. In operation, the microphone receives sound waves and converts the sound waves into electrical signals. A processor then modifies the electrical signals and provides the electrical signals to the actuator. The actuator converts the electrical signals into mechanical motion, which actuates the actuation mass to modulate the velocity or the position of the tympanic membrane.

Compact hearing aids

An automated respiration stimulation apparatus comprising a detector configured to measure a respiratory cycle of a user and a stimulator configured to automatically apply a stimulation to the user's acoustic nerve to interrupt a disturbance in the respiratory cycle of the user in response to the detection of the disturbance as indicated by the respiratory cycle measurements of the detector.

Respiration stimulation

The present invention generally relates to assistive hearing devices. In one aspect, an apparatus for use in amplifying certain frequencies and canceling other frequencies is provided. The apparatus is insertable at least partially through a tympanic membrane of a user. The apparatus includes an actuator for stimulating an eardrum. The apparatus further includes an acoustic sensor for measuring a level of acoustic energy transmitted to an ear canal and/or the ear drum of the user. Additionally, the apparatus includes an electronics package for controlling the actuator and the acoustic sensor, wherein the electronics package is configured to transmit amplified selected sound waves while canceling out other sound waves having a particular frequency or frequencies. In another aspect, an apparatus for use in measuring a parameter in a body is provided. In a further aspect, a method of selectively transmitting sound waves having a predetermined frequency or frequencies is provided.

Implantable hearing aid

The present invention provides an apparatus and method for inserting a relatively compact hearing aid at least partially through the tympanic membrane using a simplified surgical procedure. The hearing aid includes a microphone, an amplifier, and at least one speaker that can be assembled into a single enclosure for insertion through the tympanic membrane. The simplified surgical procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis and generally includes anesthetizing a portion of the tympanic membrane, forming an incision with a cutting instrument in the tympanic membrane and inserting the hearing aid at least partially therethrough. Incisions and placement of a tube in an tympanic membrane for car drainage is routinely performed in pediatric patients and combines low morbidity and good patient tolerability. The tympanic membrane restrains the hearing aid in position for at least a period of time. A power source, such as a battery, powers the hearing aid. Further, a receiver may be included with the hearing aid and can control the hearing aid from external sources. The receiver can control the amplified volume, receive sound transmissions from the opposite ear or a hearing aid in the opposite ear or receive personal communications.
