A method of operating a fuel cell system having a fuel cell stack and a plurality of fuel cells associated with the fuel cell stack. The method includes monitoring an operating parameter associated with the fuel cell stack, and adjusting a temperature of the fuel cell stack based on the operating parameter.

Fuel cell systems

A fuel cell electrode includes a plate having a front surface and a back surface and also having a plurality of gas delivery holes and a plurality of gas exhaust holes formed through the plate. The front surface of the plate has a plurality of open gas distributions channels, a first portion of which is connected at one end to a first one of the plurality of gas delivery holes and at another end to a first one of the plurality of gas exhaust holes, a second portion of which is connected at one end to a second one of the plurality of gas delivery holes and at another end to a second one of the plurality of gas exhaust holes, and a third portion of which is connected at one end to said second one of the plurality of gas delivery holes and at another end to said first one of the plurality of gas exhaust holes.

Variable pressure drop plate design

A fuel cell assembly includes a fuel cell stack, a first end plate associated with the fuel cell stack and a first heatable element adapted to heat the first end plate.

A flow plate gasket that is usable with a first fuel cell plate and a second fuel cell plate includes a material that is adapted to form a seal between the first and second fuel cell plates. The material includes at least two spaced ridges to contact the first fuel cell plate when the gasket is compressed between the first and second fuel cell plates.

Profiled fuel cell flow plate gasket

A gas diffusion layer that is usable with a fuel cell includes a material that is adapted to permit a reactant of the fuel cell to diffuse through the material. The material includes flow channels for communicating the reactant so that at least a portion of the reactant diffuses through the material to a membrane of a fuel cell. The gas diffusion layer may be received by a recessed portion of a plate.
