Passive radiative cooling structures and apparatus manufactured with such cooling structures conserve energy needs. A flexible film transparent to visible light incorporates particles at a volume percentage larger than 25% so as to absorb and emit infrared radiation at wavelengths where Earth's atmosphere is transparent. Another film transparent to visible light is thin and flexible and configured to absorb and emit infrared radiation at wavelengths where Earth's atmosphere is transparent, wherein etchings or depositions are present on one or both surfaces. A high efficiency cooling structure has an emissive layer sandwiched between a waveguide layer and a thermal conductive layer. A solar cell panel is covered by a transparent passive radiative cooling film. A container housing an active cooling unit incorporates passive radiative cooling structures on one or more exterior surfaces.

Structures for passive radiative cooling

Techniques, systems, and devices are disclosed to provide on-chip integrated gas sensor based on photonic sensing. For example, a sensing device is provided to include an optical comb generator that produces an optical comb of different optical comb frequencies in a mid-infrared (MIR) spectral range to interact with a sample under detection, the optical comb generator including a substrate, an optical resonator formed on the substrate and an optical waveguide formed on the substrate and coupled to the optical resonator, and an optical detector that detects light from the sample at the different optical comb frequencies.

On-chip integrated gas sensor based on photonic sensing

An apparatus for generating electrical energy from mechanical vibrations of an object is provided. The apparatus comprises a case for housing the object. The case comprises: a first case member comprising a first and a second opposing surfaces, said first case member comprising an internal space between the first and the second opposing surfaces; multiple piezoelectric elements for generating electrical energy from the mechanical vibrations, each piezoelectric element comprises a first and a second end, wherein each piezoelectric element being arranged over the first and the second opposing surfaces at the first end; a second case member movably suspended on the first case member, said second case member interfaces with the second end of piezoelectric elements arranged over the first opposing surface; and a third case member movably suspended on the first case member, said third case member interfaces with the second end of piezoelectric element arranged over the second opposing surface.
