A vapor deposition source that includes a substantially vertical plate to which first and second filament posts are coupled. The vapor deposition source also includes a filament having a first end and a second end. The filament provides a substantially concentric source of electrons. The first end of the filament is connected to the first filament post and the second end of the filament is connected to the second filament post. The first end of the filament is substantially vertically aligned with the second end of the filament when the filament is connected to the first and second posts.

Coil filament for plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition source

A magnetic recording medium deposited on glass and having an orientation ratio greater than one is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium includes a CoW seedlayer deposited on a circumferentially textured glass substrate. The magnetic recording medium with such a seedlayer can have an OR that is similar or higher than that with a NiP seedlayer. Magnetic recording medium with a CoW seedlayer can produce oriented glass media with orientation ratio OR&#x3e;1 when sputtered on substrates which have been circumferentially textured before the deposition of the CoW seedlayer. The W content of the CoW seedlayer can range between 30-50 at %. The thickness of the CoW seedlayer can range between 10 &#x212b; and 200 &#x212b;. The method for sputter depositing the magnetic recording medium is also disclosed and includes sputter depositing the CoW seedlayer using pure Ar as sputtering gas or using a mixture of Ar and O, HO and Nas sputtering gas.

Magnetic recording media using directly textured glass

Oriented longitudinal magnetic recording media on direct texture glass or glass-ceramic substrate with a film structure of one or more Ni-containing layer, a Cr-containing underlayer, a Co-containing magnetic layer and carbon overcoat exhibits are capable of achieving Mrt OR of &#x3e;1.5, preferably &#x3e;1.85. Such highly oriented glass media shows a significant SNR (&#x3e;2 dB) and parametric improvement over the counterpart isotropic media with the same film structure on non-textured glass or glass-ceramic substrates.
