Systems and methods for determining degradation of a cylinder deactivation mechanism are described. In one example, engine data generated while an engine is operation with all of its cylinders active is used to correct engine data generated while one or more engine cylinders are deactivated to improve detection of a degraded cylinder deactivation mechanism.

System and method for diagnosing cylinder deactivation

Methods and systems are provided for determining an offset of a manifold pressure sensor. In one example, an engine method may include indicating degradation of the manifold pressure sensor based on a sensor offset, the sensor offset based on a manifold pressure measured at a first throttle angle, a barometric pressure at a second throttle angle, a reference manifold pressure at the first throttle angle and reference barometric pressure, and the reference barometric pressure. Further, the method may include adjusting an output of the manifold pressure sensor by the determined sensor offset.

Methods and systems are provided for estimating water storage in a charge air cooler (CAC). In one example, engine operation may be adjusted responsive to water storage parameters at the CAC, the water storage parameters based on an output of a first oxygen sensor positioned downstream of the CAC and a second oxygen sensor positioned upstream of the CAC. Further, operation of the first oxygen sensor and the second oxygen sensor may be diagnosed during certain engine operation conditions wherein no condensate is forming in the CAC.

Method for estimating charge air cooler condensation storage and/or release with two intake oxygen sensors

Methods and systems are provided for using a crankcase vent tube pressure or flow sensor for diagnosing a location and nature of crankcase system integrity breach. Integrated CVT pressure readings are used to diagnose disconnection of the CVT on the air intake side and distinguish from disconnection on the crankcase side. Use of integrated pressure readings allows for a more reliable and quicker diagnosis even at lower engine airflows.

Methods and systems are provided for estimating barometric pressure based on a reference barometric pressure and manifold pressures at two different altitudes. In one example, a method may include adjusting an operating condition of the engine based on barometric pressure during engine operation at throttle angles less than a threshold, the barometric pressure based on a current manifold pressure relative to a reference manifold pressure at a current throttle angle and reference barometric pressure. Further, the method may include adjusting a manifold pressure sensor output based on an offset of the manifold pressure sensor.

Method for inferring barometric pressure at low throttle angles

Embodiments for controlling boost pressure in a turbocharged engine are provided. In one embodiment, a method for an engine having a throttle comprises, if an inferred throttle inlet pressure (TIP) value is different than a measured TIP value, adjusting a wastegate of a turbocharger based on the inferred TIP value and not based on the measured TIP value, the inferred TIP value based on air flow through the throttle, throttle angle, and manifold absolute pressure (MAP). In this way, boost pressure control may be provided by the inferred TIP value under some conditions.

Methods and system for inferring throttle inlet pressure

Embodiments for controlling cylinder air flow are provided. In one example, a method for controlling airflow into a cylinder of an engine comprises, if a previous cylinder airflow is different than a desired cylinder airflow, allocating flow into an intake manifold between a throttle and an EGR valve to provide the desired cylinder airflow while maintaining a desired EGR amount in the cylinder. In this way, transient air flow requests may be met without delay while maintaining desired cylinder EGR amounts.

Drive-by-wireless vehicle control techniques use a wireless connection between a sensor module and a control module. An action by the driver of the vehicle is detected by the sensor module and communicated to the control module using a message sent using a wireless communication pathway. The control module directs the appropriate vehicle component based on the wireless message received. The vehicle identification number (VIN) that uniquely identifies the vehicle is used to identify a wireless message has been sent from a sensor module that is part of the vehicle. The use of the VIN to identify a wireless message that applies to a particular vehicle that has been assigned the same VIN may help ensure that the particular vehicle is directed only based on actions by the driver of the particular vehicle.
