A stone impact simulator is provided. That stone impact simulator includes a projectile propulsion section to propel a projectile toward a test sample and a projectile capture section to capture the projectile after the projectile ricochets off of the test sample. The projectile capture section includes a rebound block, a spent projectile storage compartment and a projectile energy dissipation element between the rebound block and the spent projectile storage compartment.

Stone impact simulator

A novel apparatus and method for evaluating the bonding strength of a laminated glazing is disclosed. A sample of pummeled laminate is rotated while a collimated beam of white light is directed onto the sample at a predetermined angle of incidence. The intensity of light reflected from the sample is measured. The measured intensity is correlated with a standard light intensity corresponding to a known adhesion value.

Method and apparatus for evaluating pummeled glass

An anti-reflective coating employing Si.sub.1-x H.sub.x as a high refractive index material in a film pair together with SiO.sub.2 as a low refractive index material is found to be substantially transparent to visible light and to provide good anti-reflectance where the Si.sub.1-x H.sub.x film is ultra-thin, preferably less than about 80 Angstroms, and the thickness of the SiO.sub.2 film is matched to that of the Si.sub.1-x H.sub.x film. Laminated glazing units having such anti-reflective film can be used, for example, even in applications requiring high transmittance of visible light, such as motor vehicle windshields, in view of the substantial transparency of the coating.

Anti-reflective transparent coating

An anti-reflective coating employing a gradient layer of Si.sub.1-x Q.sub.x O.sub.y wherein Q is H, for which x has a value from zero to 0.5, or N, for which x has a value from zero to 0.58, and the value of y varies with depth in the coating, increasing from zero closest the substrate to 2. In certain preferred embodiments the anti-reflective coating is substantially transparent to visible light and yet provides good anti-reflectance. Laminated glazing units having such anti-reflective coatings can be used, for example, in applications requiring high transmittance of visible light, such as motor vehicle windshields.

A blue glass composition comprises conventional soda-lime-silica glass ingredients and specific amounts of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, NiO, and optionally Se, resulting in an Illuminant C transmittance of 54% .+-.3% at one quarter inch thickness, a dominant wavelength of 482 nm.+-.1 nm, and a color purity of 13% .+-.1%.
