Formulations comprising an isosorbide-modified unsaturated polyester comprising maleic acid, fumaric acid, itaconic acid or maleic anhydride and isosorbide and one or more low profile additives. The formulations exhibit better shrink control in molding compound formulations with standard low profile additives than their non-isosorbide-modified analogues. These isosorbide-modified unsaturated polyester resins may be applied in molding compounds like sheet molding compounds or bulk molding compounds and may be components of fiber reinforced composites or other composite materials.

A laminate formed from a first fiber-reinforced ply joined by a laminating resin composition to a second fiber-reinforced ply. The laminating resin composition is the cured residue of a polyester resin being end-terminated with an alkyl acrylate group and diluted with less than about 35 wt-% styrene. The first fiber-reinforced ply is laminated to the second fiber-reinforced ply with the laminating resin composition by coating a surface of the first ply with an adhesive composition. The coated first ply surface is joined with a surface of the second ply and the adhesive cured. In making the laminating resin composition, unreacted alkyl acrylate can be reacted with an epoxy to push the reaction to completion.

The invention relates to a process for preparing polyester resins by first reacting a carboxylic acid or its corresponding anhydride with a saturated monohydric alcohol to form the half ester and then reacting the half ester with a polyol. A method is provided for improving high temperature performance grade properties of unblown asphalt by i) heating an asphalt cement to 200.degree. F. to 500.degree. F. (93.degree. C. to 260.degree. Crosslinkable polymer-modified asphalt and its method of preparation

The liquid oligomeric compositions of this invention are made by the Michael addition reaction of acetoacetate functional donor compounds with multifunctional acrylate receptor compounds where the equivalent ratios of multifunctional acrylate to acetoacetate vary from .gtoreq.1:1 to .gtoreq.13.2:1 depending on the functionality of both multifunctional acrylate and acetoacetate.
