A technique facilitates improved actuation and use of packers which may be disposed along a well string placed in a borehole, e.g. a wellbore. Each packer may be constructed with a tubing, sometimes referred to as a mandrel, and an expandable metal bladder secured around the tubing via connections. The packer may further comprise a sealing element mounted about the expandable metal bladder. The packer also comprises couplings, e.g. a first coupling and a second coupling, connected at opposite ends of the tubing. The couplings each having a hole therethrough to provide a feedthrough running from an exterior to an interior of the tubing at both ends of the tubing.

System and methodology for bypassing through an expandable metal packer

A technique facilitates improved actuation and use of packers disposed along a well string and placed in a borehole, e.g. a wellbore. A plurality of packers may be disposed along a base pipe, e.g. a production tubing. Each packer has an expandable sleeve which may be expanded into a fully expanded configuration establishing a secure, sealing engagement with a surrounding wall. e.g. a surrounding wellbore wall. Additionally, a hydrolock prevention valve system comprises a valve which may be actuated to allow or block the flow of fluid from an annular region or regions between the packers.

Multiple expandable metal packers with hydrolock prevention

A technique facilitates improved anchoring of expandable well tools along a wellbore or other type of borehole. According to an embodiment, a well tool is sized for placement along a well string. The well tool comprises a tubing and an expandable tubular coupled to the tubing. The expandable tubular is plastically deformable in a radially outward direction when sufficient pressure is applied to an interior of the expandable tubular. The well tool also comprises at least one anchoring ring disposed circumferentially about the expandable tubular. The anchoring ring is constructed with at least one weak point which breaks during expansion of the expandable tubular. Breakage at this weak point enables movement of the anchoring ring in a radially outward direction without elongation of the anchoring ring.

System and methodology for utilizing anchoring element with expandable tubular

A technique facilitates pressure application downhole by locking a ball in place to prevent it from unseating even if the pressure is bled off. A ball seat is constructed with a locking feature for effectively capturing and retaining the ball once the ball is seated in the ball seat under sufficient pressure. According to an embodiment, the ball seat may be mounted at a desired position along an internal flow passage of a well string component. The ball seat comprises a throat section which is formed of a ductile material arranged in a suitable structure to enable a desired deformation upon receiving the ball under sufficient pressure. As the ball is pressed into the throat section, the material of the throat section deforms and partially springs back to resist movement of the ball in the uphole direction, thus capturing the ball in both the uphole direction and the downhole direction.

System and method utilizing ball seat with locking feature

A technique facilitates use of a packer () in a borehole () or within other tubular structures. The packer () may be constructed for mounting about a generally tubular base pipe (). The packer () generally comprises a metal sleeve () combined with extremities () located at each axial end of the metal sleeve. The metal sleeve maintains a seal once expanded to a surrounding wellbore wall, e.g. a casing wall. For example, the metal sleeve may be combined with an elastomer along its exterior so the elastomer may seal against the surrounding wellbore wall () when the metal sleeve is radially expanded. Additionally, an anchoring system () is disposed within one or both of the extremities and oriented for engagement with the tubular base pipe so as to act against rotation and sliding of the packer with respect to the tubular base pipe ().

An extrudable ball seat () is configured to be secured along a well tubing (). The extrudable ball seat () comprises a larger diameter section () and a smaller diameter () section connected by a conical section (). The conical section () has an internal seating surface () for receiving a corresponding element, e.g. a ball (), in sealing engagement. The extrudable ball seat () facilitates controlled extrusion of the element following a pressure actuation procedure by providing the smaller diameter section () with sufficient ductility to enable extrusion of the element under an increased predetermined pressure. Additionally, the extrudable ball seat comprises at least one notch (), e.g. a plurality of grooves (), positioned to initiate crack propagation and thus extrusion of larger elements.

A technique facilitates utilization of a packer () in a borehole () or within other tubular structures. The packer may be constructed for mounting about a generally tubular base pipe (). The packer generally comprises a metal sleeve () combined with extremities () located at each axial end of the metal sleeve. The metal sleeve () maintains a seal once expanded to a surrounding wellbore wall, e.g. a casing wall. For example, the metal sleeve () may be combined with an elastomer along its exterior, the elastomer sealing against the surrounding wellbore wall when the metal sleeve is radially expanded. Additionally, a device, e.g. a valve (), is employed to control the pressures acting on the metal sleeve. For example, the device may be in the form of a valve operable () to control pressures acting on the metal sleeve () while miming-in-hole, during expansion of the metal sleeve, and after setting of the packer.

A technique facilitates setting of a liner hanger in a casing or within other tubular structures via a setting tool. The liner hanger may be constructed with an expandable hanger body between fixed ends. The expandable hanger body is formed from a material, e.g. metal, sufficiently ductile to undergo plastic deformation as it is expanded into engagement with a surrounding casing or other tubing. The expandable hanger body is expanded via fluid delivered under high pressure by the setting tool. The setting tool has a pressure booster to achieve the desired high pressure. The pressure booster may be in the form of a multi-diameter piston constructed to establish the desired high pressure during a single stroke.

Expandable liner hanger system and methodology

A technique facilitates use of a packer in a borehole or within other tubular structures. The packer may be constructed with a tubing, a metal sealing element mounted around the tubing, and a differential pressure valve system. The metal sealing element may be expanded under fluid pressure for sealing engagement with a surrounding wall surface. Additionally, the differential pressure valve system is placed in fluid communication with the interior of the metal sealing element and comprises a plurality of valves which operate automatically to increase pressure within the metal sealing element when certain pressure differentials occur. The differential pressure valve system enables the packer to hold against higher differential pressures and also may be constructed so the packer is less sensitive to thermal variations.

A device is provided for cementing a casing in a well bore. The device includes, on the well head side, a shutter disposed within the casing that controls opening and closing of at least one cementing aperture. The at least one cementing aperture makes an interior of the casing communicate with an annular space situated between an external face of the casing and an internal wall of the well. The device also includes, on the well bottom side, a packer having two expandable liners mounted along the external face of the casing and at least one communication passage between an exterior of the first external liner and the annular volume. The at least one communication passage is situated on the packer side orientated towards the well bottom.

The invention relates to an insulation device for wells by controlled supply of the internal volume of an expandable sleeve placed on a casing, comprising a non-return valve placed in a passage which connects the internal volumes of the casing and of the sleeve and a three-way valve which switches a single time between an initial state in which a link connects the internal volumes of the casing and of the sleeve to expand the sleeve and a final state in which the link between the internal volumes of the casing and of the sleeve is interrupted, whereas a link is set up between the internal volume of the sleeve and an annular volume of the well, the three-way valve and the non-return valve forming, after switching, two non-return valves mounted in series and in opposite directions on the passage connecting the internal volumes of the casing and of the sleeve.

A pipe to be placed within a well for producing a fluid of interest includes an outer face onto which is crimped a tubular metal element. The inner face of the tubular element exhibits an annular groove in which a metal anchoring ring or a pair of juxtaposed anchoring rings is engaged. Each anchoring ring consists of a ring split transversely at least partially, is provided on its inner face with projecting anchoring members, and exhibits, in cross-section, a base equipped with the projecting members and at least one flank forming an acute angle with the base. The annular groove exhibits a profile that is substantially complementary to that of the ring(s). The depth of the groove is less than the thickness of the ring or of the rings. The projecting members are at least partially embedded into the pipe after crimping of the metal element onto the pipe.

A support device for tubular equipment, such as a liner inside a well, and methods for using the support device, the support device including two elements attached to each other. The two elements are: a) a cylindrical sleeve, made of ductile metal and having an external diameter slightly less than an inner diameter of the well or of a casing inserted into the well; and b) a set of tabs made of hard metal, which are spaced apart from each other and integral with the cylindrical sleeve. The tabs extend downwards from the cylindrical sleeve and an outer wall of the tabs is fitted with a series of notched formations, such as teeth, whereas an inner wall of the tabs has a conical form, the apex of which is turned down.
