A sealing arrangement for sealing a machine element, preferably a shaft, with a sealing ring and leak-detection means that comprises a sensor for detecting the leak, and a depot for picking up the leak. The depot is monitored by the sensor and the depot consists of an absorbent and/or swellable material, and is arranged so as to permit delayed leak detection by the sensor.

Leak detection means

A radial shaft seal, which includes a ring-shaped, metal supporting body and a sealing lip disposed thereon, in order to separate a hydraulic side that is particularly under high pressure, from an atmospheric side, the sealing lip being pressed onto the shaft by an annular helical spring. In an uninstalled sealing ring, the working plane of the annular helical spring has a value x that is less than zero with respect to the working plane of the sealing edge, and in an installed sealing ring, the two working planes are approximately coplanar.

Radial shaft seal

A radial shaft-sealing ring with a sealing ( ) ring made of a polymer with sealing properties, rubber for example. The sealing ring has at least one lip ( ) that rests on the shaft ( ) against a backing ring ( ) at the side not subject to pressure. The lip is permanently fastened to a reinforcing ring ( ). The cross-section of the reinforcing ring in accordance with the invention is L shaped with at least one wall that extends radially inward and rests against and partly covers the backing ring.

Radial shaft-sealing ring and process for manufacturing the same

A sealing arrangement, including a surface to be sealed off of a rotationally symmetrical machine element and a radial shaft sealing ring. The sealing ring has a sealing lip made of polymer material, which contacts the surface along a sealing edge that is formed of two mutually intersecting conical surfaces, the first conical surface, facing the space to be sealed off, forming a steeper angle with the axis of rotation than the conical surface facing away from it. A spiral-shaped groove having a rounded groove bottom is recessed into the surface, the groove bottom has a radius of curvature of 0.4 to 1.6 mm, and the depth of the groove is less than 15 &mgr;m.

Sealing arrangement

A seal comprising two rings is disclosed. A sensor or signal generator is immovably affixed to the polymeric member of one of the rings. In one embodiment, the other of the rings includes a corresponding sensor or signal generator, depending on which of these types of elements is affixed to the first ring, that is immovably affixed to the second ring.

Integrated circuit and seal

A radial shaft seal comprises a gasket and an anti-dust lip made of polymer and resting axially separated against the shaft with concentric sealing edges around it. The anti-dust lip has at least two sealing edges separated by a gap. Each edge is interrupted by at least one groove that opens toward the shaft at points distributed around the seal circumference.

A sealing ring inserted into the radial space between two relatively movable cylindrical surfaces of a first and a second machine part. The cylindrical surfaces surround one another coaxially, and the sealing ring includes a first device for statically stationary fixing and sealing of the first machine part, as well as a second device for movable sealing of the second machine part. The first device is formed by a retaining ring made of a polymeric material pierced by at least one relief groove and engaging the first machine part, as well as an annular lip seal situated in front of the relief groove which is acted upon by the pressure of the medium to be sealed. The lip seal elastically deforms above a preselected minimum pressure differential and disengages from the first machine part. The lip seal, under radial prestressing, is in contact with the first cylindrical surface during normal use of the sealing ring and elastically deforms in the radial direction only when the minimum pressure differential is exceeded.

Sealing ring

A radial shaft sealing ring has a filtering device which is disposed upstream of main seal. The filtering device comprises a sealing lip 3 which surrounds the shaft to be sealed with a cylindrical surface 5 spaced radially apart at a distance D, this gap being of a capillary narrowness. On the axial end facing chamber A to be sealed, the cylindrical surface 5 is bounded by a conical surface 10 which encloses a conical angle of 60 to 120 degrees.

Radial shaft sealing ring

A pressure regulating inlet-and-outlet valve for a sealed space enclosed by a housing wall (10). The wall is penetrated by at least one gap (6) that is spanned by a magnetic field and completely occupied by a ferrofluidic liquid (7) confined inside the gap by the field.

A shaft seal including a reinforcement ring 1 with a lip ring 2 made of a polymeric material which is connected thereto and which is provided with a cylindrical surface 4 surrounding a shaft 3 at a certain distance and with projecting retaining bodies having flow bounding surfaces disposed in radial direction of the aforesaid cylindrical surface, and the aforesaid flow bounding surfaces are associated with the longitudinal direction of the shaft at an acute angle. The free spaces 6 which are enclosed by the cylindrical surface 4, the shaft 3, and the retaining bodies 5 during non-rotation or standstill of the shaft are of capillary-active narrowness and axially completely open in direction toward the space to be sealed as well as in the opposite direction.

Shaft seal

A cartridge seal is described where the outer ring 1 and the inner ring 4 are inseparably joined to each other. The outer ring has a circumferential groove 2 which is axially open in a direction toward the outside 14 and which is engaged by a first and second sealing lip of the inner ring 4. The second sealing lip 9 is formed by an extrusion of the protruding end of the first sealing lip 8. Both sealing lips 8, 9 contact their corresponding counter surfaces 6, 7 with circumferential sealing edges 10, 11.

Cartridge seal with dual lipped secondary seal

A ferrofluid seal for a shaft comprising several sealing gaps concentrically arrayed about a shaft. Each gap is filled with ferrofluid liquid through a bore-hole. Each of the bore-holes is sealed and hydraulically isolated from the other bore-holes.

Ferrofluid seal for a shaft

An annular seal in which a sealing lip of polymeric material is urged under resilient bias against a cylindrical surface of a shaft. The cylindrical surface is provided with saucer-like indentations. The maximum depth of the indentations amounts to 4 to 12 micrometers, and each indentation is surrounded on its entire periphery by adjacent indentations. The distance between centers of the indentations is so small that the adjacent indentations merge with one another to form arrises.

Annular seal

A seal for the gap between two relatively rotatable machine parts, in which at least one of the two confronting surfaces is provided with at least one helical groove which has a pumping action toward the sealed space, and in which a preliminary seal is situated ahead of the helical groove on the side facing away from the sealed space. The preliminary seal includes a ring magnet which reaches close to the opposite surface except for a narrow gap. This gap is filled with a ferrofluid, and the radial width of the gap is substantially the same as the distance separating the helical ridges between the helical grooves from the surfaces opposite them.
