A deflection compensating roller including a rotating roller casing, a rotationally fixed yoke axially extending through the roller casing, at least one hydrostatic support device arranged between the yoke and the roller casing, the at least one hydrostatic support device comprising a pressure compartment and at least one oil pocket that communicates with the pressure compartment via at least one first restricted flow zone and at least one second restricted flow zone, and a fluid comprising at least one of an electrorheological fluid (ERF) and a ferro fluid. A viscosity of the fluid is adapted to be varied by way of one of an electric and magnetic field. Deflection compensating roll

Deflection controlled roll that includes a rotating roll jacket, a rotationally fixed yoke arranged to axially pass through said roll jacket, and at least one hydrostatic support element is arranged on said yoke to exert a supporting force on an inner side of said roll jacket. The at least one hydrostatic support element includes a pressure space, a hydrostatic pocket, and at least one device coupled to said at least one hydrostatic pocket. The pressure space is structured and arranged to receive pressure fluid to charge said at least one hydrostatic support element. The at least one device is structured and arranged to convey the pressure fluid at a constant fluid pressure to said at least one hydrostatic pocket such that constant fluid pressure is applied at an end of said at least one device remote from said at least one hydrostatic pocket.

Deflection controlled roll that includes a rotating roll jacket, a rotationally fixed yoke arranged to axially pass through the roll jacket, and at least one hydrostatic support element arranged on the yoke to exert a supporting force on an inner side of the roll jacket. The at least one hydrostatic support element includes a pressure space, a hydrostatic pocket, and at least one restrictor or capillary coupled to the at least one hydrostatic pocket. The pressure space is structured and arranged to receive pressure fluid to charge the at least one hydrostatic support element, and the at least one restrictor or capillary is structured and arranged to convey pressure fluid to the at least one hydrostatic pocket. The pressure space and the at least one hydrostatic pocket are structured and arranged to be separately supplied with pressure fluid.

Deflection compensation roll and process for reducing vibrations in deflection roll. The roll includes antifriction bearings, a roll jacket supported in an area of its axial ends on the antifriction bearings, and hydraulic supports arranged to hydraulically support the roll jacket parallel to a working plane. A damping device, positioned next to each antifriction bearing, is structured and arranged to act essentially perpendicular to the working plane.

Deflection compensation roll

Deflection controlled roll that includes a rotating roll jacket, a rotationally fixed yoke arranged to axially pass through the roll jacket, and a plurality of hydrostatic support elements arranged in series on the yoke in the direction of a roll axis which are chargeable with a pressure fluid to exert a supporting force on an inner side of the roll jacket. The plurality of hydrostatic support elements include hydrostatic pockets and at least one restrictor or capillary structured and arranged to supply pressure fluid to each of the hydrostatic pockets. A volume flow of at least some of the pressure fluid supplied to a respective hydrostatic pocket is variable depending upon a pressure on its respective hydrostatic support element.

Process for operating a calender having a roll stack formed by a plurality of rolls resting against one another in a press direction along a stack plane, at least one of the rolls including an elastic surface. The process includes determining whether a barring pattern has occurred on at least one of the rolls, determining a wavelength of the barring pattern, and displacing at least one of the rolls based upon the wavelength.

Process for operating a calendar

Calender including a roll stack having a plurality of rolls that rest against one another in a press direction. At least one of the rolls has an elastic surface. A vibration recording device determines in an uninterrupted manner a vibration of at least one of the rolls. A mechanism displaces the at least one roll crosswise to the press direction based on the vibration. The process includes determining in an uninterrupted manner a vibration of at least one of the rolls and displacing the at least one roll crosswise to the press direction based on the vibration.

Calender and process for operating a calendar

Calender with a roll stack and process for arranging rolls in a roll stack of a calender, the calender comprising two end rolls in a press plane and a plurality of middle rolls between the two end rolls. At least one of the middle rolls has an elastic surface and has a displacement (x) relative to the press plane, the size of the displacement (x) being selected based on a wavelength of a critical natural frequency within the roll stack. The end rolls and the at least one middle roll define two nips therebetween, the displacement (x) effecting a difference in distance of a fraction of a wavelength on a surface of the at least one middle roll between the two nips. An adjusting device adjusts the displacement of the at least one middle roll on the basis of a preset displacement (x), which depends on the wavelength.

Calender and process for arranging rolls in a roll stack of a calender

Calender and process of calendering a web in calender. The calender includes a frame, an upper roll, a lower roll, an intermediate roll arrangement that includes an intermediate roll that is fixed in the frame, and a load limiting device coupled to the intermediate roll. The process includes loading the intermediate roll in two directions in a pressing plane direction via the upper and lower rolls, monitoring pressures exerted in the two directions on the intermediate roll in the pressing plane direction, and releasing the load on the intermediate roll when a difference between the pressures exerted in the two directions on the intermediate roll is greater than a predefined amount.

Calender

A process for operating a calender roll that cooperates rotatingly with at least one other calender roll of a roll stack, at least one calender roll of the roll stack being provided with an elastic cover. The process includes operating the calender roll; and changing a mass of the calender roll during operation. Furthermore, a calender roll is provided including a roll jacket having a first and second end; a supply connection arrangement; and a mass changing device connected to the supply connection.

Deflection controlled roll that includes a rotatable roll jacket, a rotationally fixed carrier arranged within the roll jacket, and a hydraulic support element arrangement positioned between the carrier and the roll jacket. A closed bearing ring is located in an end region of the roll jacket and is movable relative to the carrier in a press plane, and a bearing arrangement is positioned between the bearing ring and the roll jacket. The bearing arrangement includes at least two hydrostatic support elements which are mutually spaced in a peripheral direction and at least one of the at least two hydrostatic support elements is movable relative to the carrier. At least one force generating device is positioned between the carrier and the roll jacket and is arranged to act generally radially in the press plane. The at least one force generating device is located to radially penetrate the bearing ring.

Deflection controlled roll that includes a rotating roll jacket, a rotationally fixed yoke arranged to axially pass through the roll jacket, and a plurality of hydrostatic support elements arranged on the yoke in a direction of a roll axis which are chargeable with a pressure fluid to exert a supporting force on an inner side of the roll jacket. A device for influencing a roll temperature via at least one fluid flow, which is separate from the pressure fluid is also included. The support elements are arranged into a plurality of controllable roll zones arranged along the roll axis. The temperature influencing device is structured and arranged to locally charge respective roll zones depending upon a pressure on the support elements in a respective roll zone.

Sag (deflection) compensation roll and process for operating sag compensation roll. The sag compensation roll includes a rotatable roll jacket, a non-rotating carrier being located inside the roll jacket, and a hydraulic support element arrangement being located between the carrier and the roll jacket. A bearing ring is located at each end of the roll jacket, the bearing rings are movable relative to the carrier in a press plane, and a bearing arrangement is located between the bearing rings and the roll jacket. The bearing arrangement includes at least three support elements distributed in a circumferential direction. At least one of the at least three support elements is movable with respect to the bearing ring. The process includes supplying the bearing pockets with a constant volume flow of hydraulic fluid, and driving at least one support element into the bearing ring under load up to the fixed position.

Sag compensation roll and process for the operation thereof

Soft roll that may include a roll tube having an outside surface and a sealed interior space, and an elastic coating provided on the outside surface. The sealed interior space may include a vaporizable liquid and a heat exchanger for cooling heat generated in the roll during use. The sealed interior space may be gas-tight and the temperature of the heat exchanger may be set to condense vaporized liquid.
