A miniature still camera wherein a brick-shaped main section of the housing supports and guides an L-shaped second section the longer leg of which is parallel to and located in front of the elongated front side of the main section and the shorter leg of which is parallel to a shorter second side of the main section. The second section is reciprocable between a first position in which its longer leg conceals a picture taking lens which is recessed into the front side of the main section and the shorter leg conceals a view finder in the main section, and a second position in which the lens and the view finder are exposed and the camera is ready to take pictures. The second section cocks the shutter and/or actuates the film transporting mechanism during movement between its first and second positions and is biased to its second position by a helical spring which reacts against a lug of the main section and bears against an eyelet of the second section. The lug and eyelet surround an elongated guide rod which is mounted in the second section adjacent to and in parallelism with the longer leg. The shorter leg of the second section has a tongue which extends into and is guided by a groove in the rear wall of the main section.

A still-camera film transport system includes a perforation feeler and cooperating perforation-detecting switch generating a perforation signal. A motor speed sensor generates a signal indicative of whether the motor speed is above or below a certain level. A shutter-state switch generates a signal indicating whether the shutter is in set or unset state. A motor-control switch is controlled from the output of a logic-circuit stage which receives the above three signals. During normal operation before the film end is reached, the perforation signal is used to generate a deenergize-motor signal, but in dependence upon the shutter-state signal. When the film end is reached no further perforations follow, but the transport motor comes to a halt because it cannot pull the film further. The motor-speed signal indicates this and, when applied to the logic-circuit stage, causes the motor to be deenergized if the shutter is in set state.

A slide member is slid by the user for adjusting the value of an exposure parameter, such as exposure-aperture size or exposure duration. The slide member has an inoperative setting and various operative settings, some of which are associated with different exposure-parameter values, others of which are additionally or alternatively associated with other functions and/or operating modes, the user necessarily often referring to the slide member because of its multi-purpose control actions. Electrical switch means are furthermore responsive to the setting of the slide member. A mechanical indicator mechanism of simple design, involving in the preferred embodiment a blocking blade coupled to the slide member and moving into and out of a little indicator window, quickly indicates to the user whether the slide member is in its inoperative setting or one of its various operative settings. Preferably, battery-connect action for a variety of camera circuits occurs when the slide member is moved out of its inoperative setting.

A selector slide is manually displaced by the user from an inoperative setting to a series of operative settings for adjusting exposure-aperture size. When the selector slide leaves inoperative setting, it closes a main power-connect switch connecting the camera's various circuits to the camera battery. The selector slide is provided with a pushbutton which the user depresses to initiate various control or test functions, some of which are performed only in certain settings of the selector slide, others of which are performed within all settings to which the user might move the slide in the course of adjusting aperture size, or another exposure parameter. Examples of such functions are activating a user-oriented scene-light-sufficiency indicator circuit and a circuit which indicates the state of the camera battery. Certain settings of the selector slide are reserved for flash-exposure use, and in these settings the user employs the slide to select subject-distance, and thereby indirectly the exposure-aperture size; in the flash-exposure settings, the slide also closes an enablement switch which readies a flash unit for operation. In this way, essentially only the slide and the pushbutton on it can be used to vary exposure parameters, select operating modes and exposure-parameter values appropriate for such modes, and also initiate test or monitoring operations. Preferably, a single conductive spring contact, slid by the slide and depressed by the pushbutton, engages a plurality of contact strips in varying combinations depending upon the setting of the slide and whether or not the pushbutton is depressed, to cause such contact strips, in their various combinations, to act as various combinations of electrical switches.

A film transport system includes an electric transport motor. Upon completion of an exposure, the motor is energized to perform a film-transport operation and upon conclusion thereof a perforation-feeler causes the motor to become short-circuited for quick arrest. A flash unit comprises an energy-storing capacitor connected in series with flash-unit batteries. When the film transport motor, which is powered off a motor battery, is motionless or in short-circuited condition, the energy-storing capacitor of the flash unit is permitted to charge both of the flash-unit batteries and the motor battery. When the film transport motor is in operation, the input terminals of the flash unit are conductively shunted together, thereby connecting the flash-unit batteries across the energy-storing capacitor so that the latter may continue to charge off its own batteries but not off the camera batteries. Alternatively, the flash unit does not have separate batteries of its own, and the energy-storing element of the flash unit charges off the motor battery when the film transport motor is at standstill or in short-circuited condition.

A still camera is provided with a battery compartment and with a film chamber, both of which are open at and are spaced lengthwise of, the rear side of the camera housing. A first cover is hinged to the camera housing so that it can pivot to a first position closing the chamber. A second cover is slidably mounted on the housing and movable to a second position in which it closes the battery compartment; when in this second position it engages the first cover and arrests it against movement out of the first position thereof. The inwardly facing side of the slidable second cover carries a sheetmetal contact having contact ribs which engage batteries in the compartment and complete a battery circuit only when the second cover is in its second (closure) position, but which interrupt the battery circuit when the second cover moves to its open position.

When the trigger button is depressed, a crank rod is pulled by a biasing spring in a first direction from a first to a second position triggering the shutter in the process, and an associated crankwheel drives a gear segment coupled thereto to an angular position engaging a motor-driven transmission, which latter then drives the gear segment, crankwheel and thereby the crank rod in an opposite second direction back to first position, the crank rod resetting the shutter in the process, whereupon the gear segment reaches an angular position once more disengaged from the film-transport motor. A switch-control lever coupled to a perforation feeler keeps a motor-energize switch closed until the feeler enters a film perforation, but a switch-control lever redundantly keeps the motor-energize switch closed under the camming action of the crank rod, whereby if film is present in the camera motor energization terminates when the feeler enters a perforation, whereas if film is not present then, for demonstration purposes, the same operations are performed, but with motor energization terminating in dependence upon crank rod position.

A still-camera film transport system includes a perforation feeler and cooperating perforation-detecting switch generating a perforation signal. A time-delay circuit initiates a time delay upon the commencement of film transport and generates a time-delay-elapsed signal when the time delay has elapsed. The duration of the delay is greater than the time required for the film transport motor to transport film from the last film perforation to the actual end of the film. A shutter-state switch generates a signal indicating whether the shutter is in set or unset state. A motor-control switch is controlled from the output of a logic-circuit stage which receives the above three signals. During normal operation before the last perforation is passed, the perforation signal is used to generate a deenergize-motor signal, but in dependence upon the shutter-state signal. When the last film perforation is passed, another perforation signal will not be generated, but after the elapse of the predetermined time interval, the time-delay-elapsed signal causes the film transport motor to be deenergized, but not before the actual end of the film has been reached.

A photographic apparatus wherein the diaphragm is adjustable by a reciprocable selector which is provided with indicia denoting the scene brightness and the distance from the subject. The shutter is adjustable in dependency on the position of the selector, in dependency on the speed of film which is confined in the apparatus and in dependency on the condition of the apparatus, namely, whether the apparatus is set for the making of exposures in daylight or with flash. Cassettes which are used in the apparatus have markers denoting the film speed, and such markers influence the position of a reciprocable follower which can pivot a control lever loosely coupled to a shutter adjusting lever. The latter is pivotable by the control lever or by a motion transmitting lever whose position changes when a flashcube is attached to or detached from the housing of the apparatus.

A photographic apparatus, particularly a still camera, wherein two lenses having different focal lengths are pivotable about the axes of two shafts which are located diametrically opposite each other with respect to the axis of a third shaft which supports a two-armed lever. The mounts of the lenses are coupled to the adjacent arms of the lever by pin-and-slot connections, and the lever is pivotable by a reciprocable knob to move one of the lenses into register with the light-admitting aperture when the knob is moved in one direction and to move the other lens into register with the aperture when the knob is moved in the opposite direction. The lenses are installed in the camera body at the opposite sides of the aperture, and the body has stops which arrest the respective lenses in operative positions. The lever has cams which cooperate with a leaf spring to yieldably hold either of the two lenses in register with the aperture. The shafts for the lenses and the respective lenses are adjustable axially in parallelism with the optical axes of such lenses.
