The invention is related to a reflector lamp comprising a parabolic primary reflecting section, a parabolic or spheric secondary reflecting section joined to the primary reflecting section, a parabolic or spheric tertiary reflecting section joined to the secondary reflecting section, and an incandescent or discharge light source. The secondary and tertiary reflecting sections have faceted surfaces which longitudinally extend along the surface thereof so that most (at least 50%) or substantially all the light reflected by the faceted surfaces avoids the light source and thus the light, which would be absorbed or scattered by the light source, is minimized or substantially eliminated.

A magnetron sputtering device and method for applying an interference layer to a substrate includes a magnetron sputtering chamber (A) which houses a substrate carrying assembly (B). The substrate carrying assembly comprises a primary rotation table ( ), rotating about its central vertical axis ( ) and at least one secondary table ( ) mounted to an upper surface ( ) of the primary rotation table. Substrates ( ) are either horizontally or vertically loaded on to the secondary table. The substrates rotate about their symmetrical axis. First and second targets ( ) are housed by the chamber and are disposed on opposite sides of the chamber. The primary rotation table rotates the substrates between a position adjacent a first target where a layer having a low refractive index is applied to the substrates and a position adjacent a second target where a layer having a high refractive index is applied to the substrates.

The invention is related to a reflector lamp comprising a parabolic primary reflecting section, a parabolic or spheric secondary reflecting section joined to the primary reflecting section, and an incandescent or discharge light source. The secondary reflecting section has faceted surfaces which longitudinally extend along the surface thereof so that most or substantially all the light reflected by the faceted surfaces avoids the light source and thus the light, which would be absorbed or scattered by the light source, is minimized or substantially eliminated.

A thermal processor for at least one semiconductor wafer includes a reactor chamber having a material substantially transparent to light including a wavelength within the range of about 200 nanometers to about 800 nanometers for holding the at least one semiconductor wafer. A coating including a material substantially reflective of infrared radiation can be present on at least a portion of the reactor chamber. A light source provides radiant energy to the at least one semiconductor wafer through the coating and the reactor chamber. The light source can include an ultraviolet discharge lamp, a halogen infrared incandescent lamp, or a metal halide visible discharge lamp. The coating can be situated on an inner or outer surface of the reactor chamber. If the reactor chamber has inner and outer walls, the coating can be situated on either the inner wall or the outer wall.

An interference filter or coating is provided in a predetermined pattern on a lamp envelope. The coating is comprised of alternating layers of high and low index of refraction materials applied to a vitreous outer surface of a lamp envelope. The coating may be geometrically symmetric or asymmetric, continuous or discontinuous with respect to the coating itself or the envelope to which it has been applied. The envelope can be masked prior to deposition of the coating so that removal of the mask leaves the filter in the desired pattern. The preferred process for forming the coating includes forming a boric oxide mask on a portion of the envelope, applying the coating over the mask and removing the coating from masked areas of the envelope by dissolving the mask in an aqueous solution.

Patterned optical interference coatings for electric lamps

An electric lamp includes a sealed outer envelope, an arctube located within the envelope, a shroud separate from the arctube having an ellipsoidally-shaped reflecting portion positioned around the arctube, and a coating disposed on the reflecting section of the shroud for reflecting light having predetermined wavelengths emitted by the arctube. The ellipsoidal shape of the shroud is effective for reflecting the light substantially back toward the arctube. Particularly when the coating is a color correcting coating, the shape of the reflecting section is tailored to maximize reflection of radiation at selected wavelengths back toward the arc of the arctube.

An incandescent lamp containing a coiled filament within a vitreous envelope wherein the filament is supported at at least one point along its coil length by a refractory metal support wire one end of which is welded to a coil and the other end secured to the envelope wall by a glass bead. The support prevents filament sag during lamp operation and is especially useful with double-ended high intensity tungsten-halogen lamps having an elliptically shaped filament chamber with an infrared reflecting and visible light transmitting optical interference coating on the chamber.

An alkali metal vapor arc discharge lamp which operates on DC and employs an amalgam of mercury and an alkali metal such as sodium, has a cathode to anode pressure ratio no greater than 5 and a cathode end temperature at least 50.degree. C. hotter than the anode end temperature to prevent cataphoretic separation of the mercury and alkali metal in the arc discharge during operation of the lamp. The lamp is designed to have a cataphoretic driving parameter (CDP) value of less than 150. The CDP is defined as the product of the arc current in amperes, times the arc gap length in centimeters, divided by square of the inner diameter of the arc tube in centimeters.

A lamp containing a fill of xenon, mercury and metal halide is disclosed which serves as a light source for lighting applications and is particularly suitable for automotive forward lighting applications. The xenon ingredient operates to provide for instant light necessary for automotive applications, whereas, the mercury and metal halide ingredients operate to provide for a long life, high efficiency lamp relative to either a xenon or tungsten lamp. The dimensions of the xenon-metal halide lamp of the present invention are approximately three-fifths (3/5) of those of a typical tungsten lamp utilized for automotive forward lighting applications. The reduced dimensions of the xenon-metal halide lamp allows for correspondingly reduced dimensions of a related reflector for such a xenon-metal halide lamp which accommodates the needs of aerodynamically styled automobiles.

Tungsten-halogen lamps operating at temperatures above 250.degree. C. which contain a mixture of phosphine, hydrogen, bromine and inert gas have been found to have superior life and lumen maintenance when the atomic ratio of phosphorus to bromine in the lamp is in the range of from 0.4-2.5.

Sockets for receiving metal lamp bases of electric lamps which contain metal parts fabricated from certain relatively high copper and low zinc content copper alloys are resistant to corrosion and to corrosion cracking in corrosive environments.

A spud made of refractory metal wire in the shape of a ring with a loop on each side radially aligns and provides electricity to a filament in a double ended tungsten halogen lamp. The spud has a leg extending from the end of each loop, one of which is attached to the filament and the other forming part of an inlead assembly. This spud is particularly useful with relatively small size double ended tungsten-halogen lamps having an infrared reflecting coating on the surface of the vitreous filament chamber.

An electric incandescent lamp for selective radiant energy distribution is disclosed which employs a reflective film for improved efficiency of the lamp operation. Said lamp further employs a tungsten filament extending the length of its elongated lamp envelope with particular support means for said incandescent filament also being disclosed to precisely position the filament along the principal lamp axis. Various structural configurations for said particular support means are also disclosed so that such filament position is maintained regardless of the lamp spatial orientation.
